À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

Finish reading 100 Years of Solitude!

ABOUT ME

I am a 24-year-old graduate student at the University of Haifa. I studied biology as an undergraduate, worked for a refugee resettlement agency in the US for a year, and am now exploring my interest in Middle East studies - as is probably obvious, I'm interested in everything. When I'm not studying, I love to hike, ride horses, hang out at the beach, meet new people, get to know old friends better, and discover new parts of Haifa.

PHILOSOPHY

I've never really thought of a "personal philosophy" before, but something I know for sure is that life is short and wonderful - I'll never be able to express this as well as one of my favorite bands can:

If I know only one thing, it's that everything that I see
Of the world outside is so inconceivable often I barely can speak.
Yeah I'm tongue-tied and dizzy and I can't keep it to myself -
What good is it to sing helplessness blues, why should I wait for anyone else? - Fleet Foxes, "Helplessness Blues"

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Most of my travel experiences have involved staying with and (more importantly) getting to know locals. I've been very fortunate to have had opportunities to travel in Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East, and it's not a coincidence that the countries I've enjoyed the most (Costa Rica, Palestinian Territories, Jordan, Morocco, Belgium, Sweden, and now Israel) have been the ones where I've formed strong relationships with locals. All of these connections have been made through a range of programs (Servas, AFS, Alif Morocco) and also from just meeting friends-of-friends. I decided to try out Couchsurfing after having a wonderful experience getting connected with a family in Ramallah, and I'm excited to finally have a stable living situation that gives me the opportunity to host people myself!

Centres d'intérêt

Horseback riding, reading, deep conversations, hiking, practicing Spanish and Arabic (or any other language, really!), sharing music, eating awesome food.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

My all-time favorite books include A Tale of Two Cities, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Secret Garden, and To The Lighthouse (subject to change pretty much weekly). Some of my favorite movies are What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Pan's Labrynth, Seeking A Friend for the End of the World, and Django Unchained. I really will listen to any kind of music - lately it's been a mixture of Woody Guthrie, Doomtree, Beirut, and the Devil Makes Three.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

After 23 years of wanting to visit Glacier National Park, I was finally able to spend a week there camping and hiking this past fall. More stunning than I ever could have imagined.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I'm more than happy to help people practice English, as long as they're willing to share some of their native language with me!
