I'm self-employed and happily busy based in Cardiff, Wales, offering business support to other freelancers, along with mentoring and life/work coaching. I'm also working on several freelance contracts linked to my previous jobs, to do with communities, public services and social change. I'd like to say I am obsessed with a particular hobby I'm really good at but to be honest that applies more to my work, which I love and which I get a lot of satisfaction from. I often work long hours and weekends, especially when deadlines comes up, but then I can have really flexible days at other times. I love the freedom of being self-employed.

My work alternates between being very people facing (and then downtime is all about chilling and less about doing) and spending days at the computer not talking to anyone but the cat! My ideal day off would be spent hanging out with friends, watching films, reading, having random conversations about stuff, spending time outdoors, and/or getting a bit of cultshur innit (whether exhibitions, music, or whatever might be new, interesting and make me think).

This being said, at the moment I'm converting a minibus into a homeofficevan - so that is taking up quite a lot of my days off and is more about doing than being. I'm looking forward to completing the build and moving in. While I will more than likely remain based around Cardiff, it will be nice to have the flexibility to take off on adventures on a whim, or work elsewhere for short periods. Freedom and flexibility rank high on my list of values. I also have a strong streak of minimalism, I enjoy living lightly with not too much stuff - possessions start owning you after a while, and I'd rather have no more than I need and have adventures and experiences instead. I'm house(boat!)sharing on a sailing boat right now, but it's the van life for me next. I'd describe myself as having a spiritual and alternative outlook on life, fairly hippie but not airy-fairily so – although that is all very relative.

Top of my list of things I enjoy - apart for the working and the chilling and the van building, as above - is riding my motorbike. I am fortunate in that I get to ride nearly every day for work/life/everything, and it makes me really, really happy; partly from the sheer fun of it, partly because I love the biker community, the nods and the solidarity. I *love* my bike, which is a matt black fierce-looking CB500. Character and practicality are everything and I am out in all weathers on it. As you can probably gather I'm not really a girly girl!

What else... I’m French originally, I was born and grew up in France, my dad was French (he passed away several years ago) and my mum, who still lives in France, is Singapore Chinese. I moved to the UK to finish my Uni degree and then stayed for work. I’ve been in the UK 15 years and in Cardiff for 10! How time flies.

When I lived in a house that had space and a large sofa, I hosted visitors quite a few times, and every experience was lovely. I met some really sound, interesting people and we’re still in touch today even though that was quite a few years back. I think the principles and ethos of CSing are fantastic.

At the moment I am not able to host since my own living situation is pretty transient; but I am happy to meet up with people visiting Cardiff if they need some kind of orienteering / information / advice.

I haven’t used CSing as a traveller myself so far, mainly because, well, I haven’t travelled for many, MANY years!

Music-wise my tastes are eclectic and it depends on my mood. I usually find something that I like in most genres, except maybe really shouty hiphop and heavy metal. Some of my favourite films are Fight Club (defo top of the list), Persepolis, Love Actually, Stranger Than Fiction, Wanted. I love animations - especially Pixar - and avoid horror, as I'm far too empathetic and it really, REALLY gets to me. Books? Anything I can lay my hands on, I have always been a voracious reader.
