About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To improve the reputation of American ex-pats.

ABOUT ME

Americans are good people...but somehow we bought into the notion that we are 'exceptional' in some way. So many of us have no sense of how the rest of the world actually lives. While I'm young enough and healthy enough I want to see the wonderful places of this world but, more importantly, to live among its people...to meet them, to get to know them.

PHILOSOPHY

What's important is not what we own, but how we've enriched the lives of the people we meet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm still learning about this community and I hope to participate more and more in the years ahead.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have stayed with a few CouchSurfing folk in the States. Prior to that, I lived for a time as a Hare Krishna and routinely I'd visit other devotees and stay with them--at one of our temples or perhaps in their home.

Interests

I've coached basketball and love to see how the game is played in different parts of the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite films by decade --

2010's The Artist
2000's Slumdog Millionaire
1990's LA Confidential
1980's Raging Bull
1970's Network
1960's The Apartment
1950's High Noon
1940's Casablanca
1930's I Was a Fugitive From a Chaingang
1920's The Gold Rush (Charlie Chaplin)
1910's The Mother and the Law (from Intolerance)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Pattaya, I saw two Thai girls dressed in mini-skirts who apparently had been up all night. It was about 6 AM and along came a Buddhist monk begging for food from local merchants as is the custom in Thailand. I thought it was very cool to see those two drop to their knees and touch their hands to their heads to offer their respects to the monk.
