Overview
About Me
My travels began after graduating from college and finding remote work as a web developer. Although the original job has long passed, the enjoyment of living with as few possessions as possible for easier movement has stuck. Growing up in Northern California always made me think that beaches are cold places where the water is only tolerable for short times but travelling south has shown me that the ocean and beaches don't have to be so cold.
---
I eat a vegetarian diet with lots of beans and salads. My only animal product consumed still is eggs. My main reason for going against the grain in this case is for the health aspect. Upon giving up meat 4 years ago, I found my balance on one foot improve significantly.
Also, I do not like alcohol or smoking.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Camping out can be fun on a trip but staying with new people always brings memories that never seem to fade. My experiences with hosts in Mexico, Costa Rica, and Colombia have been so welcoming.
Along with my couchsurfing profile, I have a warmshowers profile: https://www.warmshowers.org/user/61159
Interests
I try to exercise as much as I can. Growing up, I did not play sports due to my nearsightedness and spent most of my time on the computer writing programs and websites. Towards the end of my college years, I stood against a wall and noticed for the first time how slunched my back was. In the ten years since, I've sought out exercises to relieve this. Exercise can be fun but the feeling of my spine relaxing is so satisfying.
- cycling
- hiking
- backpacking
- swimming
Music, Movies, and Books
Classic texts are my favorites usually. Not only can they be found cheaper or free, they provide great insight across time and space.
Since my bicycle tour through Latin America a few years ago, my taste for cumbias, rumbas, salsa, and other music from the region has only been increasing.
I don't watch too many movies but have greatly cherished old Godard and Bunuel films.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Toured down to Colombia by bicycle
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm not a native speaker but my spanish is pretty good. If you have any computer issues, I can help there as well. I used to work on cars more frequently but now the greasiest that I'll get is to keep my bicycle moving.
