My name is Nadeep Nuwan Kumara and I love cycling so much from my childhood that I have undertaken two rides across Sri Lanka so far and completed both successfully. First it was in 2022 when I rode for 29 days continuously around Sri Lanka and developed mental strength and physical fitness to indulge in a similar event. I also gained experience to face practical difficulties and overcome obstacles one has to face during a ride of this nature.
Secondly I took part in the ‘Eco Ride’ organized by City Cycle Industries, manufacturers of Lumala bicycles which was basically for E-Bikes (Electric Bicycles) and was from Point Pedro in the farthest north to Point Dondra in Deep South and continued on Galle Road to end at Lumala factory located at Henamulla Panadura.
Moreover I have taken part in many other rides for City Cycles during the past nine months in various parts of the island riding through different terrain, organizing some of these rides and gaining valuable experience in organizing such events.
I am planning the historical Indo Lanka Friendship Green Ride starting in Dondra and riding to Point Pedro. The second leg will be in India taking the famous K2K route from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. This guiling route is famous among bicycle riders the world over and also among Indians who are interested in cycling as an adventure. I shall be joined by my friend Sugath Pathirana who has ample experience in such challenges. He has completed a 13 day cycling tour around Sri Lanka and followed it up with a record 47 day walk around the country.
Our motive of this ride is to promote cycling tourism in India and Sri Lanka who are friendly neighbours and also to show the rest of the world how close the two countries are in their common endeavours. The route in Sri Lanka and India will be promoted as one route.
