About Me

I am a person who is positive about every aspect of life. There are many things I like to do, to see, and to experience. I like to read, I like to write; I like to think, I like to dream; I like to talk, I like to listen. I like to see the sunrise in the morning, I like to see the moonlight at night; I like to feel the music flowing on my face, I like to smell the wind coming from the ocean. I like to look at the clouds in the sky with a blank mind, I like to do thought experiment when I cannot sleep in the middle of the night. I like flowers in spring, rain in summer, leaves in autumn, and snow in winter. I like to sleep early, I like to get up late; I like to be alone, I like to be surrounded by people. I like country's peace, I like metropolis noise; I like the beautiful west lake in Hangzhou, I like the flat cornfield in Champaign. I like delicious food and comfortable shoes; I like good books and romantic movies. I like the land and the nature, I like people. And, I like to laugh.

I always wanted to be a great writer, like Victor Hugo who wrote "Les Miserable", or like Roman Roland who wrote "John Christopher". They have influenced millions of people through their books. I also wanted to be a great psychologist, like William James or Sigmund Freud, who could read peoples mind. Of course, I am nowhere close to these people, yet. I am just someone who does some teaching, some research, and some writing. But my dream is still alive.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Most of my conversations about Couchsurfing begin with the question “but isn’t it really sketchy?”, accompanied by a raised eyebrow and look of concern. It’s difficult to convince people who have no knowledge of Couchsurfing’s mission that the hospitality exchange network is not only not sketchy at all, but is in fact the best possible way travel, especially for those who want to fully and deeply experience the culture of the place they are visiting.

Music, Movies, and Books

BOOKS I love fantasy. I have an amazing ability to completely lose myself in whatever I am reading. I enjoy Nora Roberts, I love Anne Rice, Anne McCaffrey, Stephenie Meyer, Phillip Pullman(The Golden Compass Trilogy), Christopher Paolini (Eragon & Eldest), and just generally anything the involves a mystical plot line. I occasionally read Stephen King when I can get past the first few chapters... his stuff normally starts out sooooo slow.

MOVIES As far as movies go, I generally lean the same direction as books. With the added ingredient of Drama. I love The Illusionist and The Prestige. I enjoy action flicks, Die Hard, Armageddon, The Rock, The Net. I'm not a huge comedy fan... though I will indulge on occasion when there is nothing else to watch and I'm bored. I love cartoons and watch Disney movies faithfully... Bedknobs and Broomsticks is still a favorite. My most recent favorites are The Spiderwick Chronicles and Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium.

MUSIC I am NOT a Christian Music fan and I will not listen to anything I cannot understand due to the amount of screaming involved. I am generally not a huge rap fan either. I enjoy current jazz (Corinne Bailey Rae), Blues/Soul(Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Fiona Apple, Bill Withers) Alternative(Tori Amos, Flyleaf, Audioslave, Pearl Jam, Nickelback, ) Folk Rock (DMB, K's Choice, Blind Melon, Damien Rice, Jack's Mannequin) Classic Rock (bob marley, Pink Floyd, The Doors, CCR, etc.)Some Metal... Some Country... and what I call chick music... Pink, Joan Osbourne, Tristania, The Veronicas. I also like Opera and Musicals. As you can tell my house is NEVER quiet. I don't operate well without Music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last year one of my best friends and I, went out in the beginning of the spring back in my lake. It was frozen but we did not know that it was only about half an inch thick ice and could be broken. I ran across the entire lake, like a fruit cake and my friend was to scared to go halfway, so he went back while we went seperate ways, all of a sudden a hear a help help! Im drowning! scream and I run back and my best friend is stuck in the freezing lake. He couldnt get out because the ice was to slippery to grab on, and the water was deep, about 10 feet by the shallow area, and 35-90 feet in deep area. I ran for him and luckily I saved his life. This is one of the most AMAZING things I have ever done in my life, be a HERO.
