ABOUT ME

Hi there, I'm Ollie! I'm a happy optimistic person, who has become unhappy with any notion of a permanent life and am slowly opening my eyes to the rest of the world. That's why I'm here!

First, a little about me. Music has been the single biggest theme throughout my life and is the artform I live for. I try to go to see live music as often as possible and have a particular taste for experimental electronic music, contemporary jazz, hip-hop, modern classical, ambient, but can be found dancing or connecting with just about anything. I also create music (or more generally, sounds), both experimentally with synthesizers, but I'm also a beginner at classical piano.

I am a big fan of fitness. I cycle a lot and it's my favorite mode of transport, but I also enjoy walking, hiking, swimming and so on. I love the outdoors and don't do too well being surrounded by walls for long periods of time.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm still new to CS but I absolutely love hosting. Hopefully, I can start doing some real traveling soon! A younger me has hosted people, and I'm looking to start hosting and surfing once again.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It's difficult to sum up my Couchsurfing experience. Everyone brings something new and I just find it incredible how friendly everyone is. It's always sad to see a surfer leave!

Música, películas y libros

I'll save you lists - specifics aren't important - and instead give you an idea of what I like.

Films: Smaller independent films are great. I like quirky/leftfield films that are unconventional. Big fan of dramas, thrillers, and documentaries. World cinema is always good. Not huge on action and comedy, but do enjoy them in the company of others.

Music: Very much into indie in general. Pretty much anything electronic - experimental, drones, drum & bass, dubstep, techno, industrial. I like hip-hop, especially the "golden age" in the 90s. I like some rock, especially older prog (King Crimson). I'm not too big on pop or country.

Books - I love science fiction - especially space operas and dystopia. I also have a lay interest in spirituality (Buddhism especially), philosophy and meditation, so I tend to read those books too. Also, being a computer programmer I have my fair share of geeky books

Food: Indian, Mexican and Japanese are probably my favorite foods. I'm vegetarian, vegan where possible.

The most moving experiences of my life that I can bring back easily at the moment are at the Big Chill festival. Seeing Chris Cunningham do a live audio visual set, and Plaid do an excellent live set the year before was mindblowing. I live by the Malvern Hills and when I walk to the top of them and look around that can be quite breath taking too.

Well, I have plenty of computer knowledge but that's not hugely interesting. But if you're interested in that, I can teach you just about anything. I will happily teach you as much as I know about music - whether this means educating you in my fairly eclectic tastes, or learning some guitar chords - I'll try and teach you anything :) I'm an OK cook too, so maybe we could share some recipes
