About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To Couch Surf the nation, over the course of the rest of 2009.

ABOUT ME

My name's Andrew, but all my friends call me Oddy. I rap as a hobby - yes, I rap. I rap, I make beats, I've worked in a professional-grade recording studio, I've performed shows, I've been invited to open for national acts by local venues, I've been guest-featured on other rappers' cds. The point of this all, is my stage name, my recording name, my artistic name, is The Astonishing OddBall. Oddy for short. And yes, people do call me that. Even my little brother. So nyah.

Who am I, then? Well, I'm 28 years old, I work part time in a pizza place, and recently I broke it off with my girlfriend of seven years, to lose that income, and in turn, my ability to maintain a home, bills, or anything else for that matter. I've been like Nero - playing the violin (or fiddle, whatever) as Rome burned before him. Particularly because many believed he started the fire in the first place.

Moving on, I've decided that I'm at a juncture in my life. I have two options - one, moving in with my family, who I love and adore, but can not stand for more than 36 hours. I would have no room, just a couch anyways, and they're horribly condescending and nosey. I would stay at my part time pizza making job, hope to find better work, and be going to school for something I'm honestly not passionate about. Find some poor sap, get married, have miserable kids, repeat the cycle.

OR, I could take a chance, do something completely impulsive and life-changing, something daring, something risky, something calculated but random. Something I would hate to turn around, be seventy years old, and regret never having done.

So, I've made the decision. That's essentially who I am right now. If you'd like, you can call me Captain Kickass. I don't mind.

Now, on to other things.

So let's see, I've rapped, I'm at a turning point, what else... Oh!

I am a 360° Rainbow Dragon/Yin of the Earth Master, in Morton's List. If you don't know what that is, you need to get schooled. And I will school you if you host me. Your life will never be the same. PROMISE. I've been playing this game for years, and it's never the same, it's always an amazing situation, and it's always completely random. With this game, you are not just getting entertainment, you are getting a way of life. I will be carrying a copy on my travels. =)

I play a lot of Nintendo games. I've never been big on Sony Playstation or Microsoft XBox, but I've always had a Nintendo system. Until recently, I had a Wii, four controllers, all the accessories, a stack of games. But I sold it to the pawn shop, for some of the money I'm planning on using to fund my adventures. My DS Lite is in there, and I'm just not going to be retrieving it. My iPod is coming with me, though.

I draw. In fact, I'm planning stops to places that allow street performers, and artists to thrive, so I can basically set up shop a few hours a day somewhere with my sketchbook, see if I can do some cartoons for folks for a few bucks here and there. But I've done comic books in middle school, illustrated a role-playing game I wrote in high school, have done numerous album covers and illustrations for web sites and print literature. All freelance.

I'm a romantic. I like candle light, and exotic foods, and dressing up to go out. I like taking a day off of work to sweep a girl up, and go on some ridiculous daily adventure. A picnic. A trip to some strange backwoods bazaar. Comic book hunting. Whatever. I like setting up bubble baths and cooking and laying in the grass, stargazing. I know this isn't a dating site, but I gotta tell all about me, right?

I'm a nerd by nature. I was a huge comic book junkie in an earlier, more prosperous day, I got through high school playing D&D and Vampire: The Masquerade, and I love science fiction and cartoons. I once took on a project so big, I doubt it can humanly be done. I was going to remodel a series of action figures - to create all 3600 Green Lanterns. If you don't know what that is, I'm more than glad to explain.

I wear a fedora when I go out. I'm a flirt. I'm an exhibitionist. I'm a great listener. I'm an even better hugger. I'm a Gemini. I'm a Juggalo. I'm a published poet.

Wow. My brain is running out of stuff. Whoa, and there's more sections. Yikes.

PHILOSOPHY

I could sit here and type it all up. But I like to share my philosophies with people in person, when that question arises. However, to sum it up, I'll just say that every moment is the last time you'll ever see that moment. This very second. And this one. And this one. Keep each moment happy by your own will, not responses to outside stimulus. Be your own happiness.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am only beginning my Couch Surfing experience, but I'd like to become an example for travelers. I really want to learn the ins and outs of being a guest to gracious hosts, and to pass on wisdom and tips to others who are deciding to take the plunge and do something impulsive. I'd particularly like to cross paths with other Couch Surfers on my adventures, to learn from them, as well.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Again, I have yet to begin my first real Couch Surfing experience. But it's coming soon, and I want to share all with everyone.

Interests

Video games, comic books, movies, books, games in general, adventure, travel, new people, new experiences, good food, being a goof, laughing, swimming, pandas.

Music, Movies, and Books

Green Lantern, The Flash, Superboy, Impulse, Generation X, X Factor, X-Force, Robin, ICP, Twiztid, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Bjork, The Cure, KottonMouth Kings, Tech N9ne, Michael Jackson, 80's music, classical, reggae, instrumental, musical scores, Hannibal Lecter movies, Saw, Braveheart, The Crow, Oceans 11, 12, 13, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Clerks, Mallrats, etc, Tim Burton movies, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, ThunderCats, The Secret, Talk Sense To Yourself, The Open Road: The Travels of the Dalai Lama, uh.... Okay, empty again.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I debuted on my local hip hop scene with not one, not two, but three albums. No one around here has done that, let alone many other places.

Teach, Learn, Share

Two books I suggest to everyone: The Secret, and Talk Sense to Yourself. They'll change your life. And if they don't, that's fine.

That being said, I can build websites, I can record music, I can create art using a computer or not. I know how to cook fairly well. I am good with electronics. Anything you need, I'll learn and or teach.
