About Me

Hi, my name is Olivia and I'm a 21 year old from New Zealand.

I've just completed a bachelor in food science, and I'm going on exchange for a semester to Manchester Business School to finish my marketing degree, which is what brings me to Europe!

I'm really easy going and am just as happy spending an afternoon chatting at the pub as I am with exploring a new city and getting up to adventures...I'm basically excited for any new experiences, as I hate getting stuck in my normal comfort zone!

Since I was living at university accommodation until I left for Europe I don't have a flat in New Zealand which is why there's no info on that until February 2016 :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For the last three semesters at Otago, I have been a kiwihost to international students, which officially means that I live with a flat of exchange students within a complex of five other flats and help them adjust to life in New Zealand, but actually means that we take them to cool places around the country and party with them :)

Through this program I have made good friends with amazing and outgoing people from all over the world, who I can't imagine having never met now, and it's made me realise just how many cool and interesting people there are to meet in the world.

I love hearing about other people's lives and experiences, and couch surfing seems like a great way to meet like minded people (I usually make friends at tourist attractions, pubs and hostels, but it can be a bit hit and miss) so I'm hoping that this will be a good way to do it!

Once I'm settled back in New Zealand, I would love to host travellers, and show them the best of my city, because travel can be overwhelming, and it would be a great thing to give someone a temporary home amongst all the confusion. Also, I really enjoyed showing my flat mates all around New Zealand, it gave me the chance to show them the best of my country (and meant I had friends to see all the tourist stuff with!).

Interests

My interests and hobbies include Hungarian folk dancing, day drinking, chatting about almost anything to anyone, climbing trees, finding cool places, and frolicking.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy listening to almost anything (usually not rap), but usually pop rock or alternative rock. House music, drum and bass and trap is my favourite clubbing music.

I watch Doctor Who, last week tonight with John Oliver and will watch any comedy movie, because who doesn't like to laugh? Even the gentlest scary movies give me nightmares, so I avoid them like the plague!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been really lucky and have had the opportunity to experience a lot of great things in the last few years, but the best thing I've ever done was becoming a kiwihost

Teach, Learn, Share

That's a tough one...from my time at Otago (a party university), I'd say I can teach you a lot of drinking games.

I can also make origami paper cranes

What I Can Share with Hosts

My outstanding charm, wit and modesty, as well as a viewpoint on the world and Europe from New Zealand.

Also, in the interests of being open and honest, I should warn you that if I offer to cook for you, it will probably be a semi pre-made dish because I am a terrible cook! My family still tease me for the time I had to look up how to boil an egg </3

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, New Caledonia, Spain, Switzerland
