About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Discovering delicious food I had no idea existed

ABOUT ME

Not generally the type of person to make plans, I've become weirdly addicted to the unexpected yet I haven't travelled to new places in far too long. I work remotely which gives me a lot of flexibility to travel and work from pretty much anywhere with a decent internet connection.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe most people are good and that a small few make the majority afraid of one another. That doesn't mean I'm naive, I've seen people be taken advantage of and I won't stand for that. I do believe in personal property and I respect other people's property as much as I would like them to respect mine. That said, I believe sharing is an essential trait of humanity so I try to do as much of it as I can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm not sure how I participate yet. I heard of Couch Surfing for the first time a few years ago and it sounded great but my extended travels were on hold while I lived in the US (visas aren't fun) so I'm hoping to do a lot more surfing. Hosting-wise I have a studio in Paris which I'm sure would make a few people happy. :-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None, zip, nada. Although I'm friends with a few couchsurfers.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw a huge heat storm in Arizona one night while I was on a road trip. It never rained but the sky was coursing with horizontal lightning strikes all night. There was so much wind we couldn't plan our tents in the sandy ground around a lake so instead a few of us slept around a dried pool, while others scattered around pool tables, couches, and inside a minivan at a campsite. It was one of the weirdest nights of my life but I remember it fondly and every time I see lightning I remember how surreal that experience was. At first the people I was traveling with complained they couldn't sleep (it was pretty loud) but soon enough everybody was overcome with awe.

Teach, Learn, Share

I never formally learned how to cook but thanks to my mom, I'm pretty good at the basics. I can whip up a pretty decent salad, steak, potatoes, pasta, omelette, etc. That said I lack rigor in the way I prepare dishes so I would love to meet someone who's a little more strict with their cooking.

As far as my job, I know quite a bit about computer software since I write it for a living. I'm familiar with Unix, and OS X. I used to be familiar with Windows but I stopped using it over 5 years ago now. I know quite a bit about user interface design, and a bit about typography. My programming language of choice is Ruby, which is an English-based language designed by a Japanese man. I really enjoy helping people discover it, it's usually fairly simple if they have just a little bit of programming experience.
