About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To gain a sense of wisdom from traveling all over the world and experiencing all the world has to offer.

ABOUT ME

I just graduated from Syracuse University up in New York, and I applied to WorldTeach, so come this August, I'll be in China teaching English. It's going to be an exciting experience, and I'd love to host some couch surfers while I'm there. Anyway, I love music and finding new artists to listen to, however, for as long as I can remember, I've been a huge fan of Bjork. I got to see her live two summers ago, but I want to see her again. Maybe she'll come to China...

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is to learn as much as humanly possible and gain as much wisdom I can during my time in this life. When I become an old ragged woman, I want to be that one woman that lives in the corner house that everyone comes to with advice or needing help with a certain situation. Then I'll whip out my tarot cards and see what the future has in store. I believe that wisdom stays with us as we change lives and the wisdom you learn in one life will ultimately help you in your next lives to come.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am curious about hosting people from all over the world. I think it would be an amazing experience as I learn of their travels and experiences and become a part of their new experiences traveling.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Haven't had an experience couch surfing, so can't really say anything yet...

Interests

Like I mentioned above, I'm interested in music and find new artists to listen to. I've been really interested in Trip-Hop lately as well as Jazz. I love Bjork too, and her jazz album is the best of both worlds. I'm also very much into learning about world religions, but I have a passion for African spirit possession-based religions. When I went to Brazil I went to study the religions of Brazil with a college class I took. We studied Candomble, a religion based on spirit possession that still dominates among the minorities in Brazil, as well as more Christian based religions. I have a huge respect for pretty much all religions, but I myself practice more of an Earth-based religion which ends up becoming a giant blending of many different religions. I love doing tarot card readings, more so for strangers than friends. Also, I love African drumming, where the highlight of my week is going to an amazing drum circle in Washington, D.C. every Sunday.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oddly enough, some of the best books I've read were books for high school classes. Crime and Punishment, the Giver, Brave New World. But I also like Harry Potter.
Music: Bjork, Massive Attack, PJ Harvey, Portishead, Oceansize, Radiohead, Tricky, Sigur Ros, Psapp, Zero 7 the list goes on..
Movies: Dancer in the Dark, Shawshank Redemption, Blind [Dutch foreign film], Eternal Sunchine, Pan's Labyrinth...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When you've witnessed a Candomble ritual in Brazil, where people are getting possessed by their deities left and right, that's definitely something to behold. Also, the night sky in Mali, Africa is something I'll never forget. Oh, and drumming with local Malians was pretty up there too!

Teach, Learn, Share

Something I've learned recently: Don't be afraid of what you can accomplish, because it's ridiculous how much fear can hold a person back. I feel as though I've lived much of my life afraid of doing things, but now, as I shed this sense of fear I had for the world, I finally feel alive for the first time.
I can teach about African based religions, namely Candomble, and I can tutor math...
But I'd love to share experiences.
