ABOUT ME

I am a student of Cognitive Science from Osnabrück, Germany. I'm half-american even though I've lived in Germany almost all my life.

Like many people on CS I am quite fond of travelling. I am however also often quite conflicted about it as I am also quite concerned about global warming, our climate and environment in general. Air-travel is just such a climate-killer.

This year I'm doing part of my big trip (about half) via rail (mainly the transsib). It ends up being a lot more expensive this way (especially all the visa), but I'm trying to explore alternative ways to travel, with lower energy intensity / carbon footprint.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've stayed with a few people, some taking me in for longer periods of time. I never was settled enough during the last three years (during which I never really had a permanent residence, only a few months a room here and there) to take anybody in.

Interests

In my free time I love to go climbing (especially on trees). Last year in September, due to an injury, I had to pause, but I'm looking forward to picking up climbing again soon. My interest in climbing actually originated from wanting to take on my fear of heights. My next fear I want to get to grits with is my fear of water & the ocean: I'll be getting into water sports.

Other personal interests include music (singing) and cooking. I'm rather seasonal about being a party-animal, sometimes I'm go out all the time, and then there's phases where I stay at home a lot, either fanatically working or hanging out with friends. I don't drink alcohol.

In my studies I am especially interested in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Computational Linguistics; I try to put together machines that can comprehend and utter natural language using methods mostly from neuroinformatics (artificial neural networks etc.).
