About Me

CURRENT MISSION

extend hospitality to decent people who may one day reciprocate

ABOUT ME

keen observer; kind of fat but still light on my feet when dancing; sedentary & contemplative by nature; mostly of good humor but sometimes moody; sharp, funny wit but more inclined to listen in gatherings of more than 4; generally comfortable with myself

PHILOSOPHY

I can not improve much on Socrates & Plato's first precept: to know myself. That remains most important. Then, honestly considering my own nature, I take what I will from inherited wisdom with both respect and skepticism. I try to reach a clear understand of my experiences. I try to be a keen observer of the human condition and of the world at large. From that totality I strive to contruct my own distinct, personal values on how to deal with myself and with others. As time passes and brings new experiences, and as I age and mature, I have had to recognize errors I made in my past behavior, observations and conclusions. Therefore, I know that even now my beliefs and what I believe to be factual are certain to contain errors. I must try to keep making improvements in my way of thinking and in my conduct. To the extent I succeed I am more at peace with my life, myself, others and the world at large.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

During the 40+ years I have travelled in rural Mexico I have never lacked for a roof over my head. In rural Mexico the saying, "Mi casa es su casa" (My home is your home.), is much more than a pleasant expression of hospitality. People live it.

Interests

family (my own by blood and others by adoption), people, the written word, music, jembe drum, chess, the kitchen, travel, dance, & occasional bouts of boozing with select company

A pyramid of the Wallendas walking a tightrope over Niagra Falls; Neil Armstrong's 1st step on the moon; a mongoose taking down a cobra; the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon near Toluca, Mexico.

Teach, Learn, Share

Time shared face to face is the best way to teach, learn and share with one another.
