Writing my way to understanding.
After years of halfway melding in to "normal" working society, I've found myself increasingly listless and unmotivated. Recently I found this site and realized it was a perfect way of breaking out of my current boring cycle. Once I've gotten my things put in storage and a bit of money saved (end of the winter at the latest), I'll be taking off for most likely Europe. I have no plans on if and when I return.
Pluralism. There is no absolute set of values to hold anyone by. I believe in a base sense of civility and hospitality, but beyond that many people's views will clash. I'm moderate and tend to listen to all sides, since in my life I have had experiences that changed my outlook on different things, so I would never want to become entrenched in certain views. I very, very rarely judge the actions of others.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Just joined the site, and am completely willing to meet anyone in the Boston area to show around. I wish I had a more viable couch, though that may change in the next month or so.
None as of yet, I'm a noob.
Books, first and foremost. I can get lost reading all day and not know if an entire house has emptied around me. Discussions on ideas comes next, since stimulating conversation and new perspectives are perhaps my main reasons for wanting to see the world. The rest of my interests are very broad, and if you're passionately interested in something and tell me about it, most likely I'll become interested as well.
Music, Movies, and Books
I end up only watching movies when people around me put them on, so my favorites are a little bland. Punch Drunk Love might be the one I've re-watched the most.
I grew up in a house with parents who were "punk rock," so that's mostly the music I was in to through my teenage years. Since then my musical interests have expanded in to just about every genre. Gram Parsons is my current passion.
As stated above, books are my real love. I started out on fantasy and science fiction, but since high school I've been mostly in to poetry and the classics, with contemporary science fiction still intriguing me if it's done well.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I toured the U.S. with a band, which is amazing but also never the way I would travel again. I'm not really in to the world just being a succession of night clubs.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can certainly help anyone get better at trivia, I'm a reservoir of random knowledge. I can also give you a quick lesson on painting if you need a way to make a buck someday!
Teach me a new language! I got shuffled around in high school, and did two years each of Spanish, French, and Japanese. I never got to a point of proficiency in any, really it was just confusion.
