About Me

CURRENT MISSION

This year is about change, I have had a wonderful 10 years in London but am searching for somewhere nearer to the sea or some natural place I love to swim every day, it'll be an exciting year.

ABOUT ME

I would look out of the window when at school rather than look at the blackboard, I saw the planes in the sky going exciting places and travel as a way of learning wonderful things about the people we are, the green and blue planet we are on.

I made it my job to learn skills that were transportable, have been a dive instructor, made underwater video for living but have also welded on the new airport in Hong Kong, video'd festivals, ran one of the first web template sites building up some of the skills needed to work on the internet. This is what I do now, create solutions for people that need wonderful things on the web.

I love playing music and have a passion for old Yamaha Classical Guitars, I play a cross between Irish and Indian, Classical and Folk, it's a fiddling style!

PHILOSOPHY

Trust in god, but lock up your bicycle first.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I shied away from Couch Surfing for a while due to many reasons, but a chance meeting on a train with one of it's creators made me reassess this. I think I should embrace couch surfing as I have a lot to give as well as a lot to learn.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have travelled for over 8 years of my life and have stayed on many couches, I regard the awareness of another persons space as well as a sense of fun to be the tools of the trade.

Interests

Swimming, Paragliding, Scuba Diving, Hiking, Travel of course, Philosophy particularly Gurdjieff and Sufi Poetry like Rumi. Vipassana Meditation but must confess to liking the 10 day courses more than strict adherence in between. I love making music and play guitar and sing. More than anything I am interested in how to carry one's life with us, in making our work a part of our lives so much that it isn't work and somehow sharing this with others.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am quite a softy when it comes to films - I cry at the end of blade runner! I love old Hollywood musicals like South Pacific, I like old films like Laurence of Arabia, A Brief Encounter and new films for the sheer exhilaration. I love iMax cinema. For music I have such a broad taste, I was 5 when I was listening to the Ducth Swing College, Dave Brubeck, my first albums where The Planets by Holst, the Beatles Red Album, Tiger feet by mud! I love epic classical music and will listen to Ralph Vaughan Williams a Lark Ascending whilst watching the sun go down, it reminds me of home. I can be very emotional in that there are some pieces of music like Talk Talk, Spirit of Eden that I find difficult to listen to because it is so profound.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have fallen asleep underwater because I was so comfortable there, have stepped off of ledges into air with a paraglider on my back. I have a faith in air and water. I have lived in Thailand, Hong Kong, have travelled in many many more countries, have slept in hammocks in the wild, tents on the Inca trail on boggy misty ground to awake to a clear dawn, have loved, have been loved, have more love to give. I have been stupid enough to end up in some tricky situations that I was clever enough to get out of. I have travelled for over 7 years of my life, often with little plan, meandering about continents like a drunkard. I love this life and will be used by by it, because anything else is a waste.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a scuba instructor. I know how to create and market websites as well as advertising, have designed a magazine, advertising hoardings in Spain. I have made video for a living as well as underwater video. I love sharing things and believe in swapping skills.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My company, some music, help in the house or garden, cooking, a love of life.
