About Me

Hello fellow Couchsurfers,

My name is Oscar Solorzano. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia; current New Yorker. Student at City University of New York, major in Nutrition & Exercise Science.

Philosophy:

Pray to thyself, for thyself, and love thyself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to travel the world and meet amazing people that are willing to share their homes and stories with me. I don't want to be a victim to the usual tourist traps. Rather I'd like to see the world from the point-of-view of the locals. I believe each person brings something new to the discussion. Therefore, we can all learn something new from each other--which is why I believe human diversity is so important.

Interests

I love healthy living. Big proponent of eating at home and supporting local/sustainable resources. Enjoy all types of physical activity especially: weight lifting, basketball, and Salsa dancing. I religiously take walks and yoga (namaste fellow yogis). Big fan of meaningful conversations. And I have taken up making short movies as a hobby.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Salsa, Soulful house, and Hip Hop. Although these are my favorites, doesn't mean I am limited to them. I enjoy all genres of music; I recognize/appreciate any artist that has put their heart into their work.
Movies: The Departed, Love in the Time of the Cholera, The Other Guys, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.
TV Series: Masterminds (the original, not the drama), Breaking Bad, HIMYM, and recently started getting into House of Cards.
Books: A Raisin in the Sun, The Giver, 1984, and The Picture of Dorian Gray.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived with an indigenous tribe in the Amazon's of Colombia for two weeks. By far one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

Oh and I opened a can of tuna with my bare hands.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach:
I want to teach people about healthier living, not just physically but mentally as well. Help the younger generations become smarter and more selfless. Ultimately, I want to start an organization in which people are more community-oriented, with a focus on sustainable food practices. I believe the people you share the table with is equally as important as the food you put on it.
Learn:
I want to pick up a little bit from everyone. I will share everything I learn for you all with people I know. A man once said, "...a wise man learns from his mistakes, a wiser man learns from the mistakes of others."
Share:
I'll share my experiences with anybody who's willing to hear. I'd like to purge my stories and beliefs with other like minded people along my journey.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my life stories and experiences. I am more than willing to teach people about nutrition, food, and better life habits. I can create meal plans and exercise programs fitted to those who are interested. And I can teach you how to be the best Salsa dancer at your next party.
