Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

To learn more about other cultures, to travel and grow and learn, to meet new people, to boldly go where no Aussie has gone before (okay that's impossible coz we're everywhere!).

ABOUT ME

I'm a transplanted Aussie living in upstate NY with my big, hairy, well-behaved dog. I believe one person can change the world. I'm addicted to Liz Lovely cookies, Seinfeld and good tea. I enjoy hiking, camping, roti and rum. I'm an island girl at heart - now to find my island! I love Little House on the Prairie and often wish I could live my life "frontier style". I'm currently stalking Dave Barry, the Pulitzer Prize winning humorist. My kingdom for a hot chip shop!!!

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in the power of people: to teach, to learn, to grow, to overcome. I believe in the power of chocolate: sauce, cake, cookies - you name it. I believe in the power of wine :) I believe in a life lived with no regrets, so get out there!

Perché sono iscritto su Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I enjoy hosting people at my place in NY (NOT NYC) and have had the pleasure of meeting several people who are cycling cross-country as well as hosting quite a few hikers who come to enjoy the many great local trails near my home.

When I'm out on the road as a CSer I'm looking for a local experience rather than the shiny, glitzy tourist thang. I want to support the local economy and not pour my money into heartless global corporations.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first official couchsurf was in NYC and since then St Lucia, Barbados and St Kitts. I've also been able to host a lot of great people at my place in NY.

Unofficially - Germany, the UK and the USA during my walkabout in 1997/98. I could have really used CS then!

Incredible people and real life experiences make for great memories.

Interessi

I like to cook and love learning new local recipes. I love being outdoors, camping and hiking with my dog. I travel whenever I can and spend A LOT of time daydreaming about my next trip. I like watching cricket and try to get away to see some when I can. I enjoy the vibe of NYC and get to the city as much as my schedule allows. I'm on an eternal quest to find the world's best hard cider (no sickly sweet stuff though) but in recent years I've come to love wine. In fact I've become a bit of a wine snob - no Yellowtail for me!

Musica, film e libri

Music - Reggae, soca and dancehall music fascinate me. Oz rock will always have a special place in my music collection. 80s music will never die!
Movies - Pretty in Pink, A Christmas Story, The Wedding Singer and most cheezy 80s movies that take me back to my awkward adolescence. I don't like scary movies or vampire flicks though.
TV - Seinfeld, Family Guy, X-Files, Fringe, Battlestar Galactica, The 100, The Man in the High Castle, 11.22.63
Books - I love historical works of fiction but have a terrible time remembering the names of authors and titles unless I really love them. Two that come to mind are "Fish, Blood and Bone" and "Pretty Birds". I encourage all CSers to read Brian Thackers "Sleeping Around" which is all about his travels around the globe whilst CSing.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

I travel alone which seems amazing to a lot of people but perfectly normal to CSers. My amazing experience - first time in the Caribbean (Grenada to be exact). The colorful houses, slow pace of life and riding the reggae buses - just knock on de roof mon and we let you off!

Insegna, impara, condividi

I do a bit of hiking in the Hudson Valley so I can recommend some trails. I enjoy canning, making soap and baking my own bread. If you are interested in learning any of the above you are welcome to ask or come for a day or two and I can show you what I know. I make my own jam, pickles, apple pie filling, tomato sauce, salsa and soup which I can (preserve) whenever the mood strikes me. Oh and my canned beets are TO DIE FOR!

Cosa posso offrire ai padroni di casa

I'm happy to show you how to make your own cleaning supplies - incredibly easy and very cheap! Or I can show you how to make your own jam with whatever local fruit you have. I like to cook and would be happy to make meals for an appreciative eater.
