About Me
Hello there,
I'm originally an actor, but for the last six months have been working as a language teacher in Spain.
I would describe myself as fun - I like talking, socialising and having a laugh, I am equally happy chilling out and watching a good film too, in all I think I'm pretty good company and I wouldn't expect or want any host to feel they have to drastically change their usual evening routine just because they have me in the house.
I'm a tidy, considerate person - if you were good enough to have me in your place I would almost certainly cook - not that I'm amazing, but I'm not bad.
I have an interest in most things and I also like people with opinions about the world. I'm appalled at the political direction the world is taking, yet everywhere I go I meet good people, so I'm hopeful.
I enjoy going out, seeing new places, night life, and walks in nature.
Puedo comunicar en Espanyol - tengo Buenos dias, y malas. El plan es a aprender Espanyol, entonces no problema si no puedes hablar inglais - Podemos segir en Castellano - pero lentamente por favor!
I've only actually couch-surfed once, despite being a member for ages. I've used HelpEX and WorkAway much more.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm using coach surfing again because I'm headed up to Santiago de Compostela by bike and I'm on a bit of a budget. Also though I want to meet some good people along the way.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music's a hard one - How about this - I dislike most main steam because I find so much of it quite downbeat not to mention generally soulless and crap - I like stuff that makes me dance - I like samba, blues and banging techno. As far as bands go at the moment I like the Turbans, the Bagdaddies, Prodigy, So Called and
As for films, I'm quite into them. 'Under the Skin' with Scarlet Johansson was an arthouse flick I saw recently and thought was terrific. I also like 'The place Beyond the Pines' with Ryan Gosling, 'Only Lovers left alive' - a great modern vampire fable with Tilda Swinton and 'The Edukators' which is an excellent German film about people who break into the homes of the richest 1% but don't steal a thing - they just turn everything upside down and leave a note saying "You have too much money".
My two favourite films of all time are 'This is Spinal Tap' and if you haven't seen it then WATCH it. And 'Apocalypse Now'.
I'm a lover of a lot of French cinema as well as the golden age of Hollywood - which was not the 50s but the 70s!
My favourite book is The Grapes of Wrath. Anything by Steinbeck is good for me. Dickens, T C Boyle and Tolstoy I like.
I like a lot of factual stuff, autobiographies and history. Finished Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantell recently - a monumentally good book. Struggling through 'Les Miserables' currently.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Lived in the Bolivian Amazon working on a farm run by an eccentric Swiss woman.
It took 24 hours to get to from the nearest town by rusty old bus along a terrible red sand track through the bush.
The other workers on the farm were devout Jews, so they would have nothing to do with the pigs; which meant all my duties consisted of looking after them. I couldn't have been happier; to this day I can't eat pork - such clever and characterful animals.
I loved living in the jungle, but the Swiss woman said she'd never seen so many snakes - the stallion got bitten on the lip and was dead within two days, so we were all a bit nervous of suffering the same fate, there not being an antidote nearby. But the smells, the sights and the feel of the rainforest is something that will stay with me forever. I was there six weeks but it felt a lot longer, every day was very different.
Teach, Learn, Share
Everybody you meet will teach you something...Whats the animal that can run for the longest time non-stop? - A human being! Did you know that? Let me stay at your house, I'll tell you more!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'll get some shopping in and make us a nice meal - I'm a pretty good cook.
I can share stories and experiences - I can talk with them about a lot of subjects, I believe in being generous. I like to listen and learn about people.
Also - I'm good at teaching English - non English speakers who want to practise - I'm your man.
