About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To learn to be both more firm and more gentle with myself, to travel more and widen my perspective, to find contentment
ABOUT ME
I'm an intelligent, open minded person, enjoy meeting people and hearing others perspectives, like to discuss philosophy, tech, politics, music, and many other topics. I like to read (Canadian literature, world literature, sci-fi/fantasy, non-fiction). I really enjoy performing arts in general, and especially MUSIC. Watching, playing (the little that I do), listening. Cycling is cool, but I've been a little lazy lately.
An atheist who loves talking about religion. I enjoy sarcasm and wit, twisted humour, scathing social commentary, earnest social commentary, new ideas, good debate, and good food.
Interests
(in no particular order) Philosophy, linguistics/language (very new to this), computing, the internet, cycling, music, home-reno, woodworking (future), billiards, games (of all different kinds: cards, board games, Carcassonne, Magic, chess, etc.)

Music, Movies, and Books
MUSIC: many, many styles. Love good 'ol classic rock, classical (mostly bach, beethoven, tchaicovsky, but always interested in learning), particularly interested in "world" music - traditional folk from Egypt, Turkey, West Africa (Malinke), Peru (Andean folk), some celtic, some arabic, ... I like house, and some techno. Ella, Aretha, Winehouse, DiFranco, Steven Fearing, Cobain, Cohen, Page, Bowie, Regina Specktor, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Damned, Neil Diamond, Mamday Keita, Toumani Diabate, Olivia Newton-John, Iron Maiden, ...
Books: Dune, Ender's Game and Alvin Maker (Orson Scott Card), Tolkien, John Irving, Christopher Moore (pleasant fluff), Steven Erickson, Heinlein, Asimov, David Adams Richards, Thoreau - On the Duty of Civil Disobedience, Guy Gavriel Kay, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, ...
Movies: I like almost anything that brings a reaction. I prefer drama and humour, the odd action flick, documentaries, independent films and have started watching some foreign language films.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The Taj Mahal and Ellora in India were pretty amazing.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know a lot about computers and the internet, at all levels, but generally more technical things than how to use a given program.
Countries I’ve Visited
Egypt, India, Israel, Jordan, Spain, Sri Lanka
Countries I’ve Lived In
