À propos de moi

I am an adventurous outdoor lover who is enjoying travelling again post children. I am still very fit and active for my age and enjoy exploring new places on foot or bikes. I love thought provoking conversations and meeting people from all walks of life. There is always so much to learn from different people and experiences and I find my life is always enriched from the experience. It's been 30 years since I started travelling in Europe and I am really excited to be back on the road.

I am also very blessed to have a home close to a nature reserve/river where the delights of the Australian bush are right on my doorstep. I have strived to create a home where everyone feels welcome, and still love it when my house fills up with my kid's friends and/or unexpected visitors.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

My motivation to join Couchsurfing came from my travel experience in my 20's when I was hitchhiking around the world and received such generous hospitality from complete strangers. Back then there weren't apps like this and I guess I was really lucky to come across some wonderful human beings. It never ceased to amaze me how people would go out of their way to look after me and it left me with such wonderful travel stories and memories. Fast track 30 years and I'm watching as my two sons have started exploring the world and I see that they are benefitting from similar experiences. So I figure it's my time to pay back and pay forward. Not to mention the fact that I now get to enjoy being on the other end of these exchanges and see how my acts of generosity can make someone else's day!

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

I'm an 80's girl through and through, and love getting up on the dance floor when there's a favourite song playing. Over the years my music tastes have diversified and depending on my mood I like to play classical or jazz, and I really love a good folk festival.

In terms of movies I'm really drawn to independent or art house films where there is a depth of meaning to explore in the story that goes beyond the special effects and action scenes.

My reading habits are generally formed by books that "land in my lap". A recommendation from a friend, a review on the radio, something that grabs my eye. I like to think that each one comes to my attention at a time when I have something to learn or reflect on.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

While raising my two gorgeous sons on some acreage outside of Canberra I built a strawbale house with my partner at the time. It was my dream home....straight out of a home garden magazine. It featured composting toilets, an incredible solar passive north facing view, feature rock walls, heat exchanges and so much light and warmth. Mostly we filled it up with precious family memories that I still cherish today.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

As a teacher, sharing skills and learning are part of my professional and every day life. Open and honest communication is one of my favourite subjects (one that is often much neglected). So I am always looking for opportunities to engage with others in authentic ways because for me that's when the joy of connection comes alive and sharing becomes so much more meaningful.

As a female tradeswoman I also love teaching people practical skills around the house that gives them the confidence to try things on their own. How's that for a great way to empower people, especially other women!

Given I have a tendency to get caught up in deep thoughts or serious conversations, I would love to learn more about how to be more light-hearted and embrace experiences just for the fun of it!

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

I am by nature a helpful and thoughtful person so when I stay with others I love to be able to contribute. Whether that's cooking, gardening, tidying up or sharing good quality company. My tradeskills may also come in handy for advise or small jobs that might need doing.
