Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Though a friend of mine, I began to hang out with the CS community in Ann Arbor, MI, and later I couchsurfed in Chicago. I've mingled with the CS communities in Detroit, MI and Philadelphia, PA as well and gone to the Detroit CouchCrash(2011) and Buffalo/Niagara Falls CouchCrash(2012). Hosting - and many more CouchCrashes - to come soon!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I joined CS because events in my life in 2010 gave me - as a friend of mine may say - the "travel bug". Other than hanging out with local CS communities, my first and only (more to come!) actual surfing experience was a trip to Chicago I made with the goal of spending the weekend with people I've never met before. So 4 hours before I left for the city, a couchsurfing request of mine was answered, and I was off to Chicago! I spent the entire weekend with the CS community there and learned that the CS community really is a nationwide community of people who'll care for you, that relationships made through couchsurfing aren't temporary, and that you're always going to run into a surfer you know later.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Alone and in the back country of Ghana, I wandered into the center of a village late on Saturday night. I then danced the night away with the local villagers.
