Kia Ora. 🇳🇿 🥝

We are a couple (Patrick and Hana, 32M and 30F) from New Zealand! I am from New Plymouth on the west coast of the North Island and Hana is from Auckland, the largest city in NZ. We both now call Auckland home though. 🏠

We have travelled a lot in our 20s but also worked hard, and now as a couple this is our last big long adventure before returning to NZ to hopefully settle down on some land and share what we’ve learnt with our friends and family. ⛰️

The plan is to hopefully go from Mexico down through to South America (that’s if our money doesn’t run out haha). 🇲🇽

I (Patrick) love high adventure activities like being out fishing or sailing, or hiking but also equally love to sit around with a beer/ watch sports on TV (or shoot hoops, kick a ball) / visit a restaurant and chill / watch a documentary. 🌊 🏄‍♂️ 🏀⛵️🍺 🎥

Hana is obsessed with cooking and cultivating vegetables (fun fact - she came 4th on MasterChef NZ) and together we can 100% cook you an awesome dinner if you would be so kind as to let us stay 😁😁. Hana and I actually ran our own food truck business together once. Japanese fried chicken (Hana is half Japanese and speaks the language fluently 🇯🇵) 🧑‍🍳 🍱 🍚 🍗 🔥

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

As mentioned, Hana and I are travelling for a few months and as we are now in our 30s and have travelled a fair bit, we know that the most enjoyable way to experience new places is by getting to know the local people. We discussed it with each other how it is so much more satisfying visiting a place and contributing (even if it is just making someone a nice meal) and making a friend in the area - instead of just passing through, staying in a hostel and taking, taking, taking all the time. 👋

We are also trying to make our adventure go for as long as possible so we do have a limited budget. Therefore couch surfing is the perfect tool to get around with the added bonus of being able to meet and learn from locals, experiences you miss out on when paying for accommodation. 💵

On the flip side, we hope that we can bring our Kiwi senses of humor and give something back to any generous souls that allow us into their homes. And of course we are more than willing to prepare a meal to say thank you. We’ve also both lived in shared accommodation situations for a decade so know how to clean up after ourselves. 🧼

Once back in New Zealand we will definitely be lending our place out to anyone who needs a place to crash. 🛌

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

One amazing thing I've (Patrick) done I would say is swimming with whale sharks. In Exmouth, Western Australia I swam deep in the Indian Ocean with these 8 meter long giants of the sea. Scary as hell first time but you have to try it! 🐋

Amazing things we’ve done together (Hana and I) - Sailing to Great Barrier Island in the tail end of a cyclone was pretty crazy! 💨

But honestly, quitting our stable paying jobs to create and run a food truck together with little to no experience was pretty amazing but also extremely exhausting and crazy 🤪. A lot of fun though ‼️

We can teach the English language for sure if that’s something you might be keen for (we would love to improve our Español - we are still beginning). 🇲🇽 🗣️

Hana can teach you pretty much anything in the kitchen too haha. Especially Japanese cuisine!

For us, the best thing to share is good conversation and good laughs 😛
