About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To squeeze as much out of life as possible.

ABOUT ME

Hi,

My girlfriend Charlie and I are spending one year traveling the world.

To get an idea of what we are about visit our blog which explains our trip and has plenty of photos. (sometimes we get a little behind)
http://blog.travelpod.com/travel-blog/paddyfetherston/1/tpod.html

We love meeting people and hearing about how life is different, in different places.

PHILOSOPHY

Charlie - If you don't ask you don't get!

Paddy - We got no food, no jobs... our PETS' HEADS ARE FALLING OFF!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We are hoping to surf across some of the more expensive cities in Europe, before restoring our surfing karma by hosting guests in our spare room in our central London flat near Waterloo station.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We are both new comers to coachsurfing.

We were inspired to join after discussing coachsurfing with several experienced surfers.

They told us that coachsurfing is an amazing experience, and now we feel our year traveling will not be complete without getting involved with couchsurfing.

Interests

We love enjoying a coffee and people watching in new cities.

Paddy enjoys telling stories and making a fool of himself. I love watching Rugby and Tennis. I enjoy reading and talking about football, but, rather unusally I dont like watching football.

Charlie; interested in films (especially world cinema from south america, china, spain, bollywood - the more films from different countries im introduced to the better!), books, books and books. in particluar russian classics. eating new and interesting foods (especially home cooked food or street food) and generally anything weird and wonderful :)

i am also one of those crazy cat ladies. i would rather have a dog but our flat in london is too small so i have a cat called Bogart. and i spend probably an unhealthy amount of time looking at cat videos on youtube. did you know there is now a cat film festival???!

Music, Movies, and Books

Paddys favourite movie is a three way tie between "True Romance", "In a Better World" and "A Day in the Life"

My favourite type of music is "Post Punk"

charlie likes many many films and this is a very difficult question (we would have to break it down into various categories). but a few, say, modern classics woud be;

In the Mood for Love
korean trilogy of the sympathy for mr vengeance, lady vengeance and oldboy
the life aquatic
forest gump
leon
women on the verge of a nervous break down
good bye lenin / the lives of others
paris i love you (short films)
trainspotting

a few favourite films from the guilty pleasures category would be; die hard, con air, the breakfast club, empire records, bad boys, most kevin smith films, fith element

BOOKS! again, the list is endless but a few very special books;

anna karenina, tolstoy
a suitable boy, vikram seth
trainspotting, welsh
the master and margarita, bulgakov
down and out in paris in london, orwell
our man in havana, graham greene
the old man and the sea, hemmingway

but i LOVE world cinema. and i love being introduced to new films...

i would particulary be interested in learning more about Iranian cinema

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Whilst trekking in Mongolia recently, we noticed two Yak Bulls turn in response to a distress call from another Yak 200m away.

We turned to see what they were looking at, and saw a wolf emerge from the forest and break in to a sprint towards two Yak calves.

The wolf made several attempts to separate the calves from its mother, before it spotted us.

The wolf froze and met our stares. Moments later the Yak bulls arrived and attempted to gore the wolf. Without taking his eyes off us, the wolf effortlessly dodged the clumsy attacks from the bulls before deciding we were a threat and disappeared in to the huge forest we were trekking alongside.

Teach, Learn, Share

Paddy - I am not very good at learning, which makes teaching very difficult for me. But, if you are nice to me sometimes I share.

Paddy is being modest. he has some great facts that he somehow learns from some obscure source! ask him how long a rat can survive without water...

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Malawi, Malaysia, Mongolia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Russian Federation, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand

Countries I’ve Lived In
