About Me

My "About Me" has changed quite a bit since I last couchsurfed 8 years ago. Well, maybe not changed, but there's definitely more to it now. So, I'll leave my "old 'about me'" at the bottom. Here's my about me for the last 8 years after returning from Germany:

Met my sweet, gorgeous wife (she wasn't my wife yet, but I figured I'd foreshadow)
Became a pilot, worked as a flight instructor
We had our first son, became broke, went back to aviation electronics - hated it
Moved to CA for a good flight instructing job
We made another little boy
I bought an airplane (via financial suicide) to start my own biz - it's actually doing okay
Bit the bullet and became an airline pilot - back to being broke again.
But, I'm in love with my wife and our children, and they love me so it's alllll good

Here's my old "About Me" which is still right on the money:

I like classic rock and roll
I don't play video games or do drugs for the same reason: I'm afraid of the addiction
I take great care of my teeth, but I wish I flossed more
My favorite food is italian
I never visit California without eating at a taco truck
I'm a great soccer player, but if I grew up around ice, I think I would've been a great hockey player
Pink Floyd is my favorite band but I think Led Zeppelin's the best
I really value my close friendships
I think American football is retarded, but I love the 49ers based on principle
I served 5 years in the US Navy
I've been called "The Grammar Police" on several occasions
I say the words "Dude" and "Fu#k" a lot, sorry
I'm borderline obsessed with Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm
I like to drink beer. Good beer.
I like to drink wine. Red wine.
I joke about religion
I'm a pretty smart guy, but sometimes I wish I understood less
Keep all my savings or travel the world?...Travel
I love a great conversation
I love comedy, but not all of it. George Carlin thumbs up; Jack Black thumbs down Sorry Jack
I believe in respecting your elders
It bothers me when people aren't "self-aware" when out in public
I have moved 12 times in 8 years
I don't understand how some people can like cats so much. What do you get out of that?
I prefer a cafe where I can talk to people over a club with loud music
I'm half Irish and half Italian

PHILOSOPHY

I don't know if I'm a deep enough person for a personal philosophy. But we all have favorite quotes, right?

"Don't sweat the small stuff and remember, it's all small stuff."
- Tony Robbins I think

"Blame is for God and small children"
- Dustin Hoffman

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I used Couchsurfing years ago (2010-2011) in Europe and it helped make my traveling extremely successful. Great people and great memories. As per my "About Me" write-up, you can see that things have changed a little. Here's why I'm on couchsurfing once again:

My family and my home are in Sacramento, CA. I'm based here in Denver. The way I'm supposed to do this is buy a crash pad near the airport and live with several other pilots for hundreds of dollars a month. There's nothing wrong with doing that but I did it in Chicago and I ended up staying in my crashpad for a total of maybe 8 days of the month and so I'm not doing it again.

Here's what I do when I'm here in Denver if I'm not assigned to fly:
I'm a soccer referee, so I referee in the evenings and weekends for some extra money
I drive for Lyft. I have my truck here and if I'm not flying during the day then why not?
For my living situation: I have couchsurfing and I have my truck. It's just the way I'm choosing to do it.

As always, I hope to continue to meet phenomenal people who are as gregarious as I am. If you can't offer me a place to sleep from time to time I'm always happy to join you for lunch or a beer so I can learn about somebody new.
