About Me

I'm a bartender / seasonal worker from the UK. I studied philosophy in university and I am also a keen musician.

It goes without saying that I am a keen traveller. I recently came back from 10 months travelling in South-East asia. My next big trip will either Latin America or India. I have a lot of saving up to do first, which should hopefully give me time to decide which one.

I'll probably be doing some smaller trips around Europe in the meantime. Visiting friends I've made from previous travels and hopefully making new ones.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because the best travel experiences come from the people you meet along the way.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I love live music. Little bars where local bands are playing. Any genre. My favourite stuff would be Reggae and Rock, although I am also a huge metalhead. Not super into clubbing but can always be persuaded by some good techno.

Movies: I like watching movies from around the world and movies with beautiful cinematography/aesthetics. Some of my favourites would be: Seven Psychopaths, City of God, La Haine, Y tu mamá también, Climax, Ya No Estoy Aqui, and Almost Famous.

Books: I like reading stuff associated with travel, such as authors like Paul Theroux, Bill Bryson, Jack Kerouac, Hunter S Thompson. I also love books that touch on spiritual themes, my favourites would be Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Persig.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent 5 weeks working in a tea farm in North Vietnam with local Hmong and Red Dao people

Teach, Learn, Share

I’m trying to learn french and spanish at the moment. I was near-fluent in french 8 years ago but have forgotten most of it. Spanish I come to as an absolute beginner. Opportunities to practice and learn either language are highly valuable to me.

Similarly I have experience teaching english in Vietnam and would be more than happy to assist anyone in practicing their english skills.

As well as this I am a very avid musician. I play guitar, bass and keyboard and love any opportunity where I can jam with other musicians. I strongly believe that music (and art more generally) is something which transcends all cultural and language barriers.

I also enjoy playing chess, but I'll still quite beginner level.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A genuine enthusiasm to learn about you, your local area and your culture. And a similar enthusiasm to share mine with you, as well as stories from my travels. My interest in couchsurfing is far more motivated by the shared experience and cultural exchange between surfer and host than the “free accommodation” mindset some people seem to mistake this app for.

If I stayed a few days I’d love to cook a meal for you. My knowledge of British culinary recipes is limited, however, so it would more likely be a recipe I learned somewhere on the road.
