CURRENT MISSION

My mission here is to give people a chance to experience my wonderful life here on Riverside Ranch with my animal friends and the beautiful countryside around the Magnetawan area.

ABOUT ME

I am an easy-going person who has seen quite a lot of the world but there is still lots to see. I enjoy conversation and learning new things. I like the outdoors and enjoy watching the changing seasons. I have 4 grown-up children that are my pride and joy. They come and go and travel the world. I learned about couch surfing from one of them that borrowed a couch in China!

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in living in the country and taking life as it comes. Problem solving is fun for me and I love a challenge! Stress is not an option around here. I volunteer in my community and try to make the world a better place in whatever way I can.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My couch is available and share my lifestyle as well! Life on the farm is good and meet my animal friends that are a large part of my life.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't had experience with couch surfing first hand but my daughter surfed in China and had a very good experience. Her friend in Korea puts his couch out there and has had nothing but good experiences as well. I want to get in on the fun!

兴趣

Music is an important part of my life and I love to have jam sessions. I play guitar, piano, drum and try any other instrument I can get my hands on!
Horses are my partners here on the farm and I take people out trail riding on my property. At the moment I share my home with my daughter, her husband, 4 cats and 3 dogs. It is surprisingly peaceful and we all get along just great. Always room for more!
I am an artist and love to draw and paint but have had that on the back burner lately.

I enjoy most music, rock, folk, world, classical, and like to play as well. Action movies, drama and comedy are great. I have been a science fiction fan and fantasy as well. I have read a lot of varied types of books and once I find an author I like I search for the rest of their work. Right now I am reading Jeannette Wall's "The Glass Castle" and am enjoying that!

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I guess the most amazing thing that has happened to me was surviving the icy waters of the Magnetawan River when I was 3 years old. Playing beside the partially frozen river is not a good idea for a child but 2 of us were there sliding on the ice. All of a sudden my ice broke off and I was in the river! My snowsuit acted as a flotation device and saved my life. That and my realization that if I stayed very still I would float and could keep my nose and mouth out in the air. I was rescued by a man who had to take a canoe out of storage and put it in the river and paddle out to save me. That took time but boy, was I happy to see him appear out of nowhere! This happened 56 years ago but I remember it very clearly. That I am here at all is AMAZING!

I have had an interesting life of self-sufficiency here on my farm, raising and home-schooling my children. My husband was a great teacher and showed us a lot of the world (Europe, U.S.A. Mexico) and opened our eyes and minds to the bounty of the fields and forest. Cancer took him from us in 2000 but he lives on in the kids and the world is their oyster! I think I can share with people an attitude and approach to life. This will be a haven from the crowded city streets and a breath of fresh air!
I know I will learn from everyone that chooses to come here from their experiences and if they are from another country, from their part of the world. I will make new friends and contacts which will enrich the rest of my life. Bring it on!
