About Me
BELOW IS MAUD'S "ABOUT ME" WHERE SHE PRESENTS HERSELF! MUCH MORE INTERESTING STUFF HAPPENING THERE!
PAUL:
Hello world!
What follows is just a shy attempt to say who I might be, for those who are curious to know before meeting me in person.
Sooo, I'm Paul. I traveled quite a lot in 2023, met a lot of people, learned two languages, and I'm glad I did! I used CS both as a traveler and as a host (both experiences were entertaining and actually very interesting).
After that (life-changing?) experience, I went back to studying and I'm currently doing a PhD in mathematics in France (in Lyon, to be more precise).
I had the chance to attend a four-week summer school related to my research in June, in Vancouver (more precisely, at the UBC campus). But of course, I planned to stay a little longer than the four weeks of work. I want to take advantage of my time here to visit a (small) part of BC, so I’m staying two more weeks — from June 28th to July 9th, I’ll be wandering around the western part of Canada!
It's a great opportunity to discover new landscapes — but more importantly, new people and a new culture!
I’m lucky to have a very adventurous girlfriend (Maud, shed described herself below) who will be with me during these two weeks of... holidays? adventure? travel? peregrinations? At some point, we might need accommodation — a good reason to come back to CS!
My interests:
I'm interested in many different things besides traveling: science, politics, juggling, playing games (I'm quite competitive — be warned before starting a game :p), running, mountains (and hiking), learning new languages (and new things in general — I like Einstein's quote: "When you stop learning, you start dying"), thinking about how to make things better, meeting new people, etc.
MAUD:
Hi, I'm very excited about these two weeks traveling around western Canada.
With Paul we planned to go around with some stops like Kamloops, Bannfs, Revelstoke to hike and to know more about local culture and history. I think that meeting and discussions with local people are the best way for that !
So we are looking for hosts during this period to discover the area. We would be happy to share with you a moment, an evening, a talk.
About me : i'm living and working in Paris in public sector. I love hiking and simple way to travel, I usually travel by foot or bicycle for long periods.
Also I love to draw and work with my hands and I will be glad to improve and practice my english with you :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I started using it when I was traveling. Afterwards, I felt it was my duty to give back to the community (and to be fair, I really enjoyed hosting people :D).
I also realized that hosting people through CS made me more generous, and I’m really glad about that :) (one might think it would work the other way around, ahah).
And now I’m back to traveling — so it’s the right moment to use it again!
Music, Movies, and Books
Let's talk about that in person
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
By chance, I once hosted a traveler who happened to be a friend of a friend. What she was doing seemed so amazing and crazy to me — so inspiring — that I decided to go on a long solo trip to South America...
Quand j'ai hébergé par hasard une voyageuse et que c'était tellement incroyable pour moi ce qu'elle faisait que je suis parti tout seul pour l'Amérique du sud pour 6 mois
Teach, Learn, Share
Learning: the utter fact of chatting with you may teach me a lot
Sharing: in France sharing a meal is the basis of conviviality, but what matters the most is sharing a moment :)
about traveling:
Traveling is such an opportunity, you see life in such a distinct way, everything is more colourful, has a different taste, you have so much energy: you strongly live...
What I Can Share with Hosts
OLD THING WHEN I USED TO HOST TRAVELERS
So... I've been hosted by and I personally hosted several persons. That made me think quite a lot about how I feel an host should behave.
So what I want to tell you beforehand:
I don't expect anything from you!
That means, if you want to be alone, you basically can (I'm mostly on CS to meet new people BUT I do think that meeting people properly implies leaving them the freedom to want or not to want meeting you!), as well please feel free to spend as long as you want in the city (outside of technical problems about coming back late you do whatever you want!!), please feel free to be yourself...
Another thing: if you happen to bring sheets, that would be amazing (it's absolutely not a condition but it does help)
