ABOUT ME

I make videogames in Qingdao, China, the place I now officially call home.

I love to wander and to meet new people. Really fortunate to get the chance to live in China and get to know such a cool culture and people.

In general, I am a coffee-drinking, artist and writer, driven by curiosity and a desire for experiences. I studied philosophy, was an amateur boxer, and a constant traveler. I'm relaxed, silly, probably a little strange, and (I think) really easy to get along with.

PHILOSOPHY

Be kind. Most of my philosophy revolves around empathy and compassion. At the bottom of it all, i believe that we are all the same person, and therefore share all joy and pain. So i try to treat everyone kindly, and remember that all my actions have repercussions that impact peoples lives. I also believe that ALL experience is good. We are constantly evolving, and even the most unfortunate things that happen to us are what make our lives something remarkable. Overall...be kind, stay happy, and keep searching.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a really nice apartment that my company gave me (woohoo) and I would love to share it with any fellow travelers in need of a place to crash and/or someone to show them around.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed all up and down the west coast. All the way from California up through Vancouver, BC. In the process, I met some of the most amazing people I've ever had the good fortune to meet. Now I'm settled down (more or less, as I've settled in the midst of wandering) and want to pay back some of the kindness I've received through people on CS. I hope to offer anyone traveling through Qingdao and in need of a place to stay, a cool apartment to crash and a good host to show them around.

Listening to and finding new music; Gawking at Contemporary/Low-Brow Art (Ben Tour, Audrey Kawasaki, Murakami); Sketching, painting...making things in general; Boxing (I was an amateur fighter and fight historian); Tattoos; foreign cultures; people in general; videogames! FOOD!! Beer! Red wine! Coffeeeeeee.

Movies: Quentin Tarantino, Wes Anderson, Kubrick, the Cohen brothers, and Akira Kurasawa are some of my favorite directors. Anything with zombies...good or bad (not the zombies, the movies). Good sci-fi!

Music: Experimental rock, anti-folk, rockabilly (& psychobilly), blues, punk, jazz, essentially any combination of the above and a bunch of other types of music with names I don't understand. I like soul, reggae, classic rock, and surf-rock...and... a little bit of hip-hop? I tend to dislike pop...

Books: anything by Dylan Thomas, e.e.cummings, the beats (almost all of them). Cormac McCarthy. Robert Heinlein. Tom Robbins. James Clavell. Max Brooks (the Zombie Survival Guide!!) Comic books and other nerdery. I also love philosophy (which may or may not be added to the category of "nerdery")

Really want to practice my Chinese!! If you can handle a conversation in broken Mandarin and don't mind my complete inability to use tones... I would love to have a chance to learn more zhongwen.
