I am an old soul. Through forces both out of my control and beyond my comprehension I seem to have lived many lifetimes in just a few short decades.

I’d describe myself as easy going, open, playful, empathic, curious, and friendly. The word others most commonly use to describe me is ‘peaceful’.

I love meeting people - all types of people. Every encounter is unique. We are likely very different, yet at the same time there's something we can share.

I tend to get along with just about everyone (maybe that's because I'm a professional listener 😅). The really special connections though, tend to be fellow explorers. Those who know how to slow down and be present to the here and now, ever curious to see what unfolds.

At the moment there's nothing in particular I want, I'm just along for the ride. Life keeps throwing things in my direction and it's all I can do to stay open, keep on my feet, and ride the waves as they come.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I've been on this platform a long time and my participation goes through phases, but it always comes back to facilitating the opportunity to meet a diverse range of interesting people.

In 2011 I lived in Seattle for 12 months. From camping, to hosting, to coffee or language meetups, CS was a good way to get out and do things with people. Often, the random meetup activities are the best. Like this one time, I walked all around Seattle Zoo with a couch surfer I just met because we couldn't find the rest of the group.

2013-14 spent 18 months solo travelling in Europe. Staying with locals gave me access to so many experiences that would not otherwise have been possible. I made lifelong friends and spent most of my time in small towns avoiding big city tourist traps.

Back in Melbourne I hosted a couple of times, and I've periodically been on and off the platform ever since.

Intereses

I like both simple things and complex things.

Simple things like sunshine, walking, trees, coffee, talking to people, sitting on the beach.

Complex things like progressive metal, the evolution of ideas and culture, the conflict between relativity and quantum theory, alongside ongoing professional interests in emotional intelligence, neurodiversity, personal growth, and adult psychological development.

Recently I've been getting into rock climbing, playing the handpan, and listening to shamanic inspired electronica.

I love any music that's full of emotion.
I play the drums so I'm drawn to Metal and Jazz.
Eclectic would be an understatement... conventional would be incorrect... I like music too much to appreciate what generally passes for 'popular'...

I like books that teach you what you now realise you already knew...

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I have a gift for explaining the complicated in terms of the simple. Physics, philosophy, theology, human behaviour... You'd be surprised how much can be meaningfully understood, at least in part.

I've always loved big questions, and I'd love to hear yours. I am keenly interested in other people's personal philosophies and you can learn a lot about a person by the types of questions they ask themselves.

As an engineer, it was my job to be very conscious of hidden assumptions. As a life coach it's my job to listen for hidden underlying beliefs. You'd be surprised what you can learn, but simply asking yourself WHY you believe what you believe... There's always a treasure trove just beneath the surface.
