Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to see as much of Ireland as I can, while taking time to read a dozen books or so before I go home.

ABOUT ME

I'm sailing a lot these days, on my own boat, on my family's boat, and very soon (hopefully) on the collectively owned boat which we're repairing in New Orleans to use as a teaching vessel for a loosely organized, vaguely feminist and anarchist sailing collective which some friends and I are starting up. I try to get out hiking and camping as much as possible, which is less than I would like, but I'm usually sailing at least a few months of the year. This makes holding down a job tricky, and not very appealing, so these days I'm freelancing as a writer, a boat-repair person, and occasionally as an artist/builder/etc.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to be the sort of guest that does the dishes and cleans the kitchen.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

It's been years and years, actually. I've been living in New Orleans and I got a bit overwhelmed by the vast hordes of party-centric travellers who come through town.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Back in the day I stayed on couches and met wonderful people in various parts of Europe and N. Africa

Intereses

sailing, camping, hiking, making beer and liquor, collective projects, literature, baking, feminism, punk shows, and lots of other shows, bonfires, cooking, cooking over bonfires.

Música, películas y libros

I'm more of a sponge than a critic. When I'm in Washington DC it's a lot of hardcore and noise at loud volume in dirty basements. Providence RI is more quirky folk punk and explosive noise shows while the great state of Maine is a place for bluegrass and fiddle and the sort of music you play outside in the woods.
Most of all I love to see DIY gigs anywhere in the world!
For books I read a lot of fiction, both sort of heady stuff and the occasional regression to teen novels and sci-fi.

Algo increíble que he hecho

A few years back I bought a destitute little 28-foot cruising boat for a few thousand dollars and slowly rebuilt just about the whole boat. I wasn't expecting to have to do half as much work, but in the end I'm happy with all I learned.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I can brew decent beer and I'm an ok cook and a decent baker. I'm good with bikes, particularly old steel bikes, and I'm a fair hand at repairing most things.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I've got a bitchin' sourdough starter in a little jar and I know how to bake a very nice loaf of bread.
