About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to see if it is possilbe to turn our average urban house into a profitable farm, build a straw house, pedal and paddle more, love more carefully (or is that a bit 60's)

ABOUT ME

well theres a couple of us. Julia is an amazing, kind, gorgeous, easy, fun, brave german woman. Paul is a tad older, wacky thinking, aussie.

we both like cycling on our lovely folding triple tandem, growing most of our own food when in Melbourne, eating out, our friends from all over the world, Melbourne, a good discussion, good beer and red wine, roo meat

Julia also likes chocolate, ice cream from the luckau market, sleeping in, reading novels

Paul also likes reading newspapers, coffee, sea kayaking, papua new guinea, learning german, rain

this site might give you access to a bunch of pics http://picasaweb.google.com/paultmckay/WarburtonAgain?feat=directlink and i think you can go to more from this user... And we almost put together a site for the house here - http://sites.google.com/site/paultmckay/westgate-st-1

PHILOSOPHY

for those who have a body - move it a lot, eat plants and sleep a lot. People are constantly amazing. We live in lucky place in luscious times. life gets betta when we use less. Politically, probably a tad left if we are forced to find a spot on a linear line.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

well we have had several folk stay and passed it on to friends who have used it

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have had some lovely folk stay and enjoyed them heaps. The few that haven't felt so comfy (we concluded) were primarily because they were after cheap accommodation rather than a "cultural experience" - not really interested in us or our house. We would like to do some surfing on our travels and have tried a couple of times but the timing didnt work - doh. We have also had help-ex folk (like woofing though we dont have to be an organic farm) through and some from warm showers (help for touring cyclists).

Interests

cycling, kayaking, growing food, lots of eco issues - specially around marketing

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

paul has set up the largest cycling ngo in the world with a turnover over 10m, the largest supported bike tours with 8000 people for a week, sold a gasification unit to a british chicken ocmpany, got a bunch of bikes for poor folk in south africa, seen a bird of paradise, met a man who killed his father in law cause he was a sorcerer, cooked some yummy porridge

Teach, Learn, Share

well i know a bit about bikes and how to get people cycling, organising big bike events, heritage varieties of fruits and vegies, marketing, sustainability. i want to know more german and straw bale building
