About Me

CURRENT MISSION

No regrets, no worries, no fear...and to show people there is still good in the world.

ABOUT ME

I love traveling, pure and simple. I've never been outside my own country and Canada, but I have walked and biked 3,400 miles across America, so I know my country quite well. Now I want to turn my attention to traveling the world, go outside of North America.
I love challenging myself, which I guess is one reason I was able to go across the country on my own physical power.

I also am a writer, and have been published hundreds of times, mainly for the newspaper I write for, The Detroit News. I am currently finishing my first book, about my walk and bike ride across America.

PHILOSOPHY

You can only start living after you stop fearing. I believe people need adventure to enjoy life. Adventure is what makes life worth living.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I go around sharing my stories with people who let me sleep on their couches. Every time I am grateful for the hospitality. Also, my hosts have sometimes wanted to join me for a little bit on my walk or bike ride (either for a couple of hours or a couple of days). That's always fun!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I was new to couch surfing when I started my cross country journey, but now I am quite experienced. I stayed in nearly two dozen homes when I biked and walked from St. Augustine Beach, Florida to the Arizona/New Mexico border. I have also stayed with people who I meet while on the road (for example, I was at a convenient store in Virginia and the owner offered me a place to sleep at his house).

Interests

Traveling, hiking, biking, writing, reading, talking to people, playing sports, running, kayaking, canoeing, exploring, hitch-hiking, loving life.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favortie movies are Into the Wild, Jeremiah Johnson, Rudy, Braveheart, Blood Diamond, Bonnie and Clyde, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Young Guns, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Taken, Defiance, Remember the Titans. Music favorites are Ke$ha, Whitney Duncan, Gloriana, Julianne Hough, Flo Rida, Keith Urban, Five for Fighting, Lifehouse, Taylor Swift, Goo Goo Dolls. Favorite book is The Places In Between (by Rory Stewart) and Into the Wild. Love Seinfeld TV show, seen every episode at least twice (particulary like when Kramer hosts three Japanese tourists in his apartment...one of best episodes).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I survived a 4.5 mile hike up a mountain in a snow storm with no shoes. Toughest thing I've ever done.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am into wilderness survival and am an experienced writer. I can also give you tips on how to travel long distances by foot or by bike (and when I mean long distances, I mean hundreds and thousands of miles). You know, things like where to sleep at night, how to handle certain situations.
