Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm a newbie! No couches surfed as of yet...
Interests
Ideally, I’d like to spend all my time either in festival fever mode or in relaxed bliss! I love to be surrounded by people and the positive energy they bring while I also crave the quiet escapism that comes with exploring the great outdoors. I’ve always loved to travel – it is for me the best way to combine freedom with fun. I’m intrigued by the weird and the wonderful. I love anything that tells a story, whether that be a building, a film or book, a city or a stranger you meet on the way.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I recently went to India where I visited the Bodhi tree at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya. It is believed that Gautama Buddha achieved enlightenment underneath this sacred tree. Although we arrived after closing time, we were fortunate enough to be granted access to the temple (I think there may have been bribery involved!) By coincidence, there was a special event being held that night in which Buddhist worshippers had gathered to partake in meditation and chanting rituals. I am not an especially spiritualist person but the experience surprised me in the ways in which it moved me. The temple had a peaceful yet powerful energy about it. We made floral offerings at the tree and a monk handed us each a fallen leaf to keep. There were many moments in India where I found myself awestruck by the scenery and culture, but I remember the tree of enlightenment for its calm beauty and the special moments with close friends it inspired.
To celebrate my mother’s 50th birthday, we went to Seville for the annual Feria de Abril. During the weeklong fair, Seville’s streets witness parades of traditional Andalusian horse riders. Bullfights are held daily while Spanish women wear the most colourful of dresses to the evening parties. It was here that I first discovered the art of flamenco dancing. At a particular performance, I was astonished by the passion conveyed through the dancers’ movements. The intensity, drama and sense of immediacy were thrilling to experience.
