Overview
About Me
I am a 23 year old Brazilian who is also interning at the Inter American Commission on Human Rights. I recently graduated from my studies on the field of International Relations in Brazil. My majors were human migration, and refugee studies.
I have lived in the US as a Senior in High School(Cortland, Upstate NY) when I was 15, through the Rotary Youth Exchange program. During that period I was given the opportunity to live with two host families: One with WestPoint family tradition and the other with very liberal practices. I have also lived in Washington DC in 2016 where I worked as an intern for the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
I have also lived in Wiener Neustadt (Niederosterreiqch, Austria) for a year (2013-2014) through a highly competitive scholarship offered by the Austrian Federal Ministry of science and research.
I love my family above all, and having said that, I do also believe one can elect his/hers own family.. therefore friends are amongst the most precious aspects of life... and I have them all across the world. I enjoy a good read, weather fiction or a scientific book (mostly related to social sciences), traveling (mostly unplanned), outdoors activities, listening to music, enjoying a good beer/wine and trying new experiences.
I speak Portuguese, English and Spanish, and plan on pursuing a specialization on Human Rights in Coimbra (Portugal) starting this January.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To get to know people who are willing to share their experiences and to help one explore areas/places which are unknown to many. Above all, to make new friends and acquire unique memories and experiences
Music, Movies, and Books
I love all Classical Music, even more so baroque.
Instrumental music is also one of my passions... and there are no borders for that (Chorinho, samba, bossa nova and forro in Brazil, musicians such as Yann Tiersen in France, Anoushka Shankar in India and so on and so on...)
I adore Blues and Jazz (Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Houlin' Wolf and many others)
I believe The Doors to be one of the best groups to have ever existed
Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix...
Books: Any book that teaches or allows one to travel away from mundane existence.. just try me!
Movies: Im addicted to cinema, therefore, anything that can be considered to be art.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have travelled across countries and met different people without spending a single dime of my own, that is, through my academic efforts which granted me scholarships.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach how to make caipirinhas (a typical Brazilian drink), brigadeiros (brazilian truffles), how to speak/pronounce words/ sentences in Portuguese, about the international refugee regime (international relations) or politics.
I can share many of my traveling and personal experiences (which despite of my young age are many), and most importantly, I am always deeply interested on learning.
