Because I've known a lot of people who have done it and clearly recommended it as an incredible experience. We're all used to living in our "shells", so defying that comfort zone to help another person it just seems like a good thing

I wouldn't say teaching, but I believe we all have something we can share like some trait or skill that intrigues and fascinates others. I know I have a lot to learn from other people, like their mindset, their values, their skills and passions.
