About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To try and be the kind of person to others that I myself have been fortunate enough to meet on my travels and life in general...to share who you are is to give all....and sharing is what makes us tick! Eclectic, describes equally my character and life to date.

ABOUT ME

Recently retired after living in Australia for 35 years and then 8 years in Czech Republic now live in Portugal. In my 60's but not into 'ageism' so love the company of all ages, if you're a nice human being that's all that counts. I'm reasonably healthy and am into good food (I'm a good cook too :) and food as medicine.... but I'm a hypocrite cause I smoke (but not indoors of course). Love history, the arts, architecture, music, people watching with a coffee, walking. Haven't watched TV or read a newspaper in 25 years but love the internet. Think I'm a calm straightforward guy who loves a good discussion about everything and anything. Not a drinker in general but love a beer or wine with friends over dinner/lunch etc. Worked in the welfare sector for 20yrs, was a Film Censor in Aus for 7 years and a performing guitar player/singer/songwriter and English teacher in Europe amongst other things.
Am a Liverpool football/soccer fan. Am equally inspired by rural environments and coastal areas, love oceans and rivers and forests but not into deserts or flat land, there must be some hills/mountains to make me feel happy :) Am thinking how I can get myself into some artistic pursuits right now such as sculpting, something I've always wanted to do and don't want to wait for the next life to do it, if there is one :)
I believe the greatest disservice to mankind is the obscene inequality we have allowed ourselves to accept globally as 'normal'.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Would like to offer any help I can to people that come this way. I have just rekindled my couch surfing connection and now live in Coimbra, Portugal. Happy to meet for coffee and show people around Coimbra. Maybe willing to offer a mattress on the floor for a night or two to the right person.
In my many travels I met some fantastic people, some just plain friendly and some truly inspiring and I know how they positively influenced me so now I would like to be that kind of person to others..... oooh, is that being a bit egotistical or presumptuous ? Anyway, I'm sure you know what I mean.
I remember often being in a new place knowing nothing and no one, when a chance meeting changed everything and made that experience something far more than I expected.... that's the power of other people and I so appreciated it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Had one visitor when I lived in CZ in 2007 but only recently arrived back in Europe from Tasmania so nothing here yet.

Interests

Places visited incl Germany, Czech Republic, Estonia, Russia, Hungary, France, Spain, Greece, Italy, Thailand, Solomon Islands. Love b/w photography, all kinds of art, particularly love old architecture but also love some contemporary stuff too. Love a wine or cool beer with long conversations over dinner/lunch with people. Like football (that's UK soccer...Liverpool FC). Love the info available via the internet and its communication opportunities. Still like to play a bit of guitar and am very partial to jazz . Have always been amazed by the pencil sketches of da Vinci and will soon try some sketching myself:) Love European movies (was a Film Censor in Aus although 'censor' is no longer the appropriate title for what it actually entails)
