I have been a part of Couchsurfing for many years now and it has shaped my life in many ways.
The tight knit community in Austin, TX showed me how beautiful my home state can be right when I was about to run away with only condemnation in my heart.
The fun and open community in NYC provided me with amazing friends from Day 1 when I picked up everything and moved there on a whim.
And it continues to provide me with friends in every corner of the world. I travel by myself for months at a time, but I am never really alone when I'm Couchsurfing and that is so important :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love hosting and I love surfing! But the most difficult thing about Couchsurfing is saying goodbye to new friends after just a few short days. Every person whom I spend a certain amount of time with stays with me.
Live theater, sitting on the top of double-decker buses, walking for hours, standing at the bow of ships, and scotch.
Music, Movies, and Books
Jhumpa Lahiri and Steinbeck
Bob Dylan and Ella Fitzgerald
Frances Ha, Medianeras, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, and It's a Wonderful Life
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In 2005 I traveled with my 90-year-old grandfather back to his hometown of Belcastro, Italy. He hadn't seen it since he left for America at the age of 12 and never thought he would again.
