About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Exploring a new home.

ABOUT ME

Small town girl found her way to big cities. Grew up in the Midwest, moved to the South, landed on the edge of NYC. Great mix for an eclectic personality. Love meeting new people, be it in my own home or on the road.

I'm in the process of finishing Pastry school. The ultimate dream is to open a Patisserie & Chocolatier. Great way to use the art degree I got first!

I'm an avid reader and have the library to match. Somehow my library grows without me looking (they are having baby rabbit books... I swear!). I love to talk literature and stories. I have a fascination for traditional fairy tales, my favorite being "Sleeping Beauty". And almost every culture has a version! My parents still have my collections of those storybooks, but I hope to steal it back from them someday. (My mom is a college professor specializing in Children's Literature.) I collect and seek out great illustrated books, Jerry Pinkney is one of my favorites, because another dream is to be a children's book Illustrator. Thus the obsession with books.

I love traveling. Got the bug passed down from my parents. My first camping trip I was 18 months old, and haven't really stopped since. The best trip I have taken was when I was 21 and spent a month traveling to Egypt, Greece, and Italy. Granted, it was for school, but it was still a blast. One day I will make it back overseas again.

Anyone who knows me, knows I'm kinda a Jack(or Jill)-of-all-trades. I get that from my Dad. In college I was nicknamed "Martha Villa" after Martha Stewart and Bob Villa. Just in case... Martha Stewart is the guru of Homemakers--gardening, crafting, entertaining, cooking--and Bob Villa was the Ultimate in home repair and hobby woodworking. But my skills don't really end there. Now if only the working world would see my handiness?? But aren't we all looking for complete job satisfaction?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Was introduced through my boyfriend to the community on my first trip to NYC. Had a great time and want to contribute back. A great way to meet Honest to good people.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sunrise on Mt. Sinai in Egypt on an Early Sunday morning. The only thing more awesome was watching my travel companion fall off a camel cause she fell asleep.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know this is nerdy, but I knit. I learned from my grandmother and have had success teaching others. I would love to teach more. I know I don't know it all yet and if you would like to share what you know I like the idea exchange. I love the idea of old world crafts. Who needs scrapbooking, when old family quilts have more history and better memories?

I am a chef.. I like to have help in the kitchen. If you are willing to listen, and not cut your fingers off (and stay out of my way ;) ) I can teach some basics. The only requirement is you have to surf!
