About Me

My house is near Soweto in Johannesburg, which is ideal for travellers that want to experience the people of South Africa. You can reach my house by train, buses, minibus taxi (shared taxi), Uber, meter taxi or I have parking for cars. Chill out in the swimming pool, acclimatize, explore Soweto, chat and plan your next adventure.

If you can bring me some typical food from your country then I would be very grateful! I love to try new foods.

I am relaxed and easy to talk to. I make friends very easily, I usually travel alone so that I can spend all my time with local people. I don't travel to see places, I travel to meet people and understand their views, their opinions, their challenges and experiences. I am very interested in new experiences, new foods and most of all people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have a comfortable and safe house for travelers to explore Johannesburg. Hotels look the same everywhere in the world. For me travelling is about meeting people and Couchsurfing is a great way to meet new people.

Interests

swimming, growing herbs, food, languages, managing people, organisational structures, healthcare, human cultures, human- machine interfaces, programming, robotics, robotic vision, house renovations, chic flicks (I don't like violence in entertainment), philosophy, unusual sports, board games.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

completed a 1000km hike. Once. And probably never again.

Teach, Learn, Share

!! Visitors from Eastern Europe !!
I have had many fantastic surfers from Eastern Europe and I welcome you with open arms. I understand that in many Eastern European cultures it is expected that the host shows the guest around the city but in South Africa that is not normal and if you expect that, then you will need to tell the host ahead of time (and it is very unlikely that anyone in Johannesburg will agree).
If a guest stays at the home of the host, the expectation is that the guest reciprocates with a gift (a chocolate, food, a small trinket, a yoga lesson, help with something ). Be careful of gifts that are alcohol, alcohol is welcome in most homes but alcohol is also problematic in some homes- do not expect that the host will drink it with you.
In my particular home I work during the day and so I am not available to show guests around the city. I welcome a cultural exchange instead of gifts, so I would prefer that you cook a meal on one of the nights. Some people are not good at cooking or cannot find ingredients locally, so cooking is not an expectation but it would be nice.
I will definitely listen to your preferences and help you with precise information about the best way to visit the city so that you can gain the best experiences while staying safe.
