About Me

I'm a natural introvert but can hold up my end of a conversation. I just don't tend to start them...

I'm also the guy who goes to a party where he only knows one or two people and ends up spending the entire time on the floor interacting with the host's pets.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to expand my boundaries and meet new people. I think there is so much I could learn from others and their experiences and, hopefully, share things with them in return!

Interests

I’m a good cook, a decent bread baker, can curl my tongue, and can throw a really accurate Frisbee forehanded. I like brewing beer and, when I owned a home back up north, I also had a very productive vegetable garden. I would loooooove to have the space to do that again, but for now a small herb garden in my apartment will have to do.

My main hobby is habitual hobby hopping -- I do a thing for a while and get reasonably proficient at it or just stay crappy at it, and then I pick up something new and repeat the process. Last spring (2016) I spent some time shooting archery and in the summer/fall, I started into the world of mycology (mushroom hunting). This year, I've been going to meetups focused on foraging wild foods and herbal medicinals, which has been awesome. I actually got to use a bit of the knowledge already when a friend bumped into a stinging nettle and I found the natural treatment (jewelweed) right next to it and was able to alleviate the burning! This year I also want to focus on learning some guitar and *maybe* trying to learn a new language.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Can't say I have a favorite. Currently reading "Bird by Bird" by Anne Lamott. Other recent books were Tim Ferriss' "Tools of Titans" and Anthony Bourdain's "Medium Raw."

Movies: I like action, adventure, sci-fi, comedy, and documentaries. Specifics are a good topic of conversation!

Shows (current): Mr. Robot, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Adam Ruins Everything, StarTalk with Neil deGrasse Tyson, The 100, Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, America's Test Kitchen, Rick and Morty, Westworld, Atlanta.

Shows (past): Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Dexter, Good Eats, The Twilight Zone, Arrested Development.

Music: I'll touch on specific music, but instead of a long list of artists covering a dozen genres, I'll list, unfiltered, my five most recently played playlists on Spotify so you'll know where my head is at currently with music... or at least what I'm giving a shot (I will try to update this once in a while):

1) A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step
2) Childish Gambino - Awaken, My Love!
3) a mixed playlist of aggressive hard rock
4) Old School Hip Hop Hits playlist
5) Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
