About Me

I live in a guesthouse operated for the benefit of UCC (Universal Community Center ...there is also a Facbook group ) of Gwangju. We have a room that is reserved for migrants that need safe accommodations. I like the outdoors, but I also like to play board/card games for fun. Make me laugh, and I'm yours. Talk to me about books, authors, music.

In my past life, before I moved to Korea, I lived at a small land collective in New Mexico, called Brown Rd Collective. This was a 5 year experimental project that we put everything we had into. Before that, I was at University of New Mexico, where I participated in progressive-experimental arts, anarchist-theatre, and other Community Activism projects.

PHILOSOPHY

Imitate an intelligent plant or animal.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I did start a COUCHSURFING group for DIY skill sharing about 10 years ago. So, I'm still hoping that this group can assist travelers who focus on projects that not only get the work done, but encourage people to do it themselves... as opposed to expecting leaders and governments to act in their interest.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have (technically) never actually used this app for couchsurfing... but I have met plenty of great folks through the meet-ups, etc... When I joined there were no fees, so I've decided to remain fee free (Unverified).

TRAVEL EXPERIENCE
I've traveled in the United States and some Canada, Mexico, and Europe, Asia using every kind of alternative transportation available. Recently: San Francisco, Japan, and around South Korea. I am ever grateful, and constantly in debt to strangers everywhere who have always shared their transportation, meals, and shelter with me.

Sometimes with very officially organized groups, but usually with mostly underground/ casual networks.

Interests

Laughing, audiobooks, farming, movies, dishwashing (cooking ), cycling, hiking, volunteering.
I would like to meet more folks who are into experimental/revolutionary film, theater, and art. A radical plumber? Also more collective projects, especially gardening.
I like camping, animals... even bugs.

Music, Movies, and Books

Play Ukulele, Listen to Tiny Desk (NPR). I prefer raw, stripped-down forms of artistic expression. Cheap! I appreciate parody, and I have an, um... unique sense of humor. Podcasts! (Subgenius Hour of Slack, Latino USA, WTF w/ Mark Maron, This American Life)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Freight train rides. Passive Solar powers. Homebrewed Biodiesel. DIY pirates radio. Kill Your Televisions! Marches with giants puppets.

Teach, Learn, Share

The concept of traveling and skill-sharing is something I'm interested in. I have a lot of unusual skills to offer, that I learned from living with D.I.Y. land collective for 5 years. My skills range from home brewing biodiesel with waste grease, to making beer and wine from found fruit. I love dumpsterdiving for stuff, and then making something delicious or practical out of it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Solidarity. The director of UCC speaks languages used in India, and is fluent in Korean. UCC is a good resource for adventure travelers, as well as migrants, students, etc.

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Thailand, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

South Korea, United States
