About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Doing as much travelling before starting some grad school in the fall.

ABOUT ME

Live and work in Egypt. Got interested in this part of the world after 9/11 and eventually decided I'd like to work somewhere between the Mideast and the US. Tried law, social work and development before settling in with economics.

I play Frisbee whenever I can, preferably on grass. Trying to get into Parkour without injuring myself. I study Arabic about as much as I exercise.

PHILOSOPHY

The impact you have on those closest to you is decent measure of a life well lived.

Music, Movies, and Books

Reading something akin to the readers digest version of T E Lawrence's Seven Pillars of Wisdom, Zone One by Colson Whitehead, A Separate Peace by John Knowles, and Oil, Dollars, Debt, and Crises: The Global Curse of Black Gold, by Mahmoud El Gamal and Amy Jaffe. It's probably time to finish one of those before starting another. I'm also working my way through 1/4 Gram in Arabic.

Music: John Mayer's clawhammer style, Mumford and Sons, Florence and the Machine, Frank Ocean and Bruce Molsky

Movies: Cool Runnings

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rented a car and drove across the Sinai the same weekend a bus was shot at, I taxi driver was shot dead for blowing through a check point we tried to cross the next day, and Bedouin stopped our car by shutting down the highway with burning tires to ask us our plans for the evening. They were staking out a police station that had the audacity to provide safe shelter to a man whose son had eloped with one of their daughters.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a bit about Egypt's economy and how to write about it.

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Cyprus, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In
