About Me

update: Moved to NYC in March 2022 after living in London (2018-2022), originally from Prague.

CURRENT MISSION

Build meaningful connections, share stories, and create great memories with people from all over the world.

ABOUT ME

I’m Petr — originally from Prague 🇨🇿, spent 5 years in London, and since 2022 I’ve been based in New York City. Even after a few years here, I still feel like there’s so much of NYC to explore, so I’m always up for discovering hidden spots, cool food places, or just walking around and hang out.

Travel has always been a big part of my life. I love exploring new cultures, trying local food, and meeting people whose paths I’d never cross otherwise. I’ve been lucky to travel across Europe, Asia, America and beyond, but what stays with me the most are the people and conversations along the way.

Friends would describe me as easygoing, positive, sociable, and curious. I love cooking, good conversations over coffee or cocktails, and finding fun ways to stay active — from gym sessions, park runs, bicycle rides, to surfing trips. I enjoy nights out with music and dancing just as much as a quiet evening with friends and a beer or bottle of wine .

PHILOSOPHY

There are no strangers, but friends you haven't met yet:)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After more than a decade on Couchsurfing, I can honestly say it’s introduced me to some of the most amazing people in my life. For me, CS is all about making new friendships, sharing experiences, and learning from hosts about the cities and cultures we visit.

I’m always happy to help others discover Prague, London, or New York — and of course share a bit of Czech culture, food, or insider tips.

Interests

• Travel & Adventure: Solo or with my partner, I love backpacking, hitchhiking, exploring nature and mountains, and discovering new cultures.
• Food & Gastronomy: I love exploring new restaurants in the city (it can be Michelin star or corner fast food I don’t care as long as the food is delicious and company is great) and cooking at home. My specialties include green curry, Thai steamed fish, dan dan noodles, steak, Korean BBQ, katsu curry, and kimchi fried rice. Eating well and sharing meals is a big part of my travels and life.
• Sports & Fitness: Staying active is essential. I run half-marathons, do obstacle races like Spartan, cycle (Prospect Park, Central Park, Palisades Park), boulder, surf, and enjoy gym workouts including HIIT and weights.
• Social & Cultural Life: I love spending time with friends, dancing, visiting bars, laughing, and talking. I enjoy cultural activities, movies, and discovering the local scene wherever I go.

Music, Movies, and Books

• Movies & TV: I love chill nights watching Netflix or heading out to the cinema. Big fan of Korean movies and shows, dating shows, real crime, and documentaries. Basically, anything with good storytelling. I don’t really watch sports — except once a year when I dedicate a whole month to watching the Tour de France every single day.
• Music: Music is a big part of my life. I often travel to Berlin (my favorite city) for its music scene. I’m into electronic artists like Jamie xx, KEINEMUSIK, Fred Again.., and BICEP. On the flip side, I also love Thai funk (look it up if you haven’t heard it — it’s incredible) and can happily sing along to plenty of 90s and 2000s classics.
• Books & Podcasts: I enjoy reading and listening about personal growth, psychology, investing, and tech. I also mix in political and economic podcasts, but balance it out with lighter, fun ones when I want to switch off.
• Sports & Fitness: Staying active is a big part of my life. I’ve run the NYC Marathon and most of the city’s half marathons. I love road cycling — usually in Prospect Park, Central Park, or out to Palisades Park in New Jersey. I’m also into bouldering, and I enjoy gym classes like HIIT and mixing in some weight training. Surfing is another passion, and I make time for it whenever I can (especially in Portugal).
• Food & Cooking: Cooking is one of my favorite ways to relax and connect with people. My specialties are green curry, Thai steamed fish, dan dan noodles, steak, Korean BBQ, katsu curry, and kimchi fried rice. If you’re around, there’s a good chance I’ll try to cook something for you.
• Travel & Culture: Traveling has shaped so much of who I am — whether it’s backpacking through the Balkans, road-tripping in New Zealand, or mushroom picking in Czech forests. I love connecting with locals and experiencing a place through its culture and everyday life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

• Took part in a crazy travel challenge: 10 days, 100 EUR, and as many checkpoints across Europe as possible. With a friend, we made it from Czech Republic through Poland, the Baltics, Finland, Sweden, then flew down to Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Slovenia, and Austria — all on that tiny budget. It was exhausting and unforgettable.
• In 2018 alone, I managed to take 45 flights — the busiest travel year of my life.
• Spent a month backpacking through the Balkans, which turned into one of my all-time favorite travel experiences.
• Danced at some of the world’s biggest music festivals — from Street Parade in Zurich (a million people partying in the streets) to Ultra Europe in Split.
• Packed up and moved to New York City without a job or apartment lined up. Four months later, I had both, plus a ton of great stories.
• In 2020, during Covid, I went to Portugal for three weeks — and met the love of my life. Since then, we’ve been traveling and surfing together, returning to the same spot every year.
• Went on a month-long trip with my partner, spending three weeks exploring New Zealand and ten days in Japan — one of the most unforgettable journeys we’ve shared.
• Visited Russia and came back with more than just “survived” — I left with some unforgettable memories and wild stories.

Teach, Learn, Share

• Teach: I’d be happy to teach you some Czech words and share a bit about Czech culture. I can also cook for you — anything from green curry to kimchi fried rice — or share training tips from running marathons, cycling, or surfing.
• Learn: I love learning a few words in new languages, and I’m always curious about local food traditions, hidden spots in your city, or your favorite music.
• Share: Good conversations, a positive vibe, stories from living in Prague, London, and New York, and if we’re lucky — a homemade meal or a fun adventure together.

What I Can Share with Hosts

• My travel stories from Europe, New Zealand, Japan, and beyond.
• Recommendations for places to visit and hidden gems in Prague, London, Lisbon, and New York.
