About Me

Hi, I'm Petra from Budapest, Hungary, I'm glad to meet you all!

I've just finished highschool in the spring of 2024 and now I'd love to budget travel (by hitchhiking, workaway, couchsurfing, and volunteering) in the next few years. I hope that in the following period of time, I'll be able to get to know several of you, a lot of countries and their cultural particularities, and start to learn many languages. When travelling, I prefer to experience the events and moments that make each place themselves. I also enjoy visiting for example arts exhibitions, or go hiking in the nature.

Feel free to text me if you have similar plans or interests, I'd be happy to meet you!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Besides preferring couchsurfing for being a financially advantageous option, I also like to talk to locals when visiting other places, so I can get to know other cultures more, and many different mentalities and points of views.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I mostly listen to alternative music (Hungarian bands like Elefánt, Csaknekedkislány, Bohemian Betyars, Kollár Klemenc László, Cseh Tamás, and international performers, for example Aurora, Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash, Psychedelic Furs, The Who, The Beatles). But I also like dance music, jazz, and classical music. (I also play the cimbalom, a Hungarian instrument, but not professionally.)

Books: I mostly read classical and contemporary literature. I read a lot from Hungarian authors, but I like the Russian literature and the works of philosophers too. I'm also interested in poetry.

Movies: I mostly like art films, because they are thought-provoking, aesthetic, and deep. A few of my favourite directors are Ingmar Bergman, Tarr Béla, and Tarkovsky. I love to go to art cinemas as well.

Both from books and films I prefer those pieces that are thought-provoking and which raise interesting philosophical questions or show me a wholely new perspective to life. That is also one reason why I love traveling: I love getting to know new perspectives, mentalities, and views on life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One summer I attended the celebration of Saint Pantaleimon in Bulgarien. It was organized in the woods and we ate lamb soup, learned a Bulgarian folk dance, while a Bulgarian folk band played authentic Bulgarian live music, and we ate from the bread that was consecrated by a pope.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As your guest, I'd be very polite, friendly, and helpful, for instance, I can help you with your chores. I can also convey some of Hungary's interesting culture, unique language, literature, art film culture or even it's cuisine to you. I can teach you how to crochet or knit as well. I'll be happy to host you too in Budapest as soon as I'll have my own flat.
