About Me

My name is Phil, I'm 24, and I currently reside in Northeast Ohio. I am just another human wandering through life and picking up as many experiences as I can along the way as I figure things out. I am currently looking to move out of Ohio in the near future and explore other cities throughout the US in the meantime.

I'm a huge supporter of education in all its forms (formal and informal) and I believe that we all play the role of both teacher and student constantly throughout life. I currently work at a local community college in a role that allows me to ease the access of education to others and help those through the barriers that may otherwise restrict them from an education they seek. I am also involved at a local bicycle cooperative in Cleveland (The Ohio City Bicycle Co-Op, check it out if you're in town!) to help pass on the bike mechanic knowledge I have gained from others and to build a space that fosters this type of community collaboration.

I also really enjoy exploring new environments whether they range from urban cities to more natural, remote spaces.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I just recently joined, and I don't have much else in the way of social media. I think this is a great way to interact with a new location in a truly genuine way, not just as a site-to-site tourist. In my opinion, people and connections with them are the best way to experience the surrounding culture. I am currently looking to explore other cities in the US and hope to be a host someday soon when (if) I settle down myself, wherever that may be.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: What I listen to seems to change on my mood, but some of my favorite artists currently include Earl Sweatshirt, Aesop Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr., Gorillaz, White Stripes, Fat Freddy's Drop, Glass Animals, Flume, Lana Del Rey, Gramatik, Wax Tailor, Thievery Corporation, Ratatat, Pink Floyd, CCR, Mamas & Papas, Parliment Funkadelic, and NOFX

Movies: Few that come right to mind are The Italian Job, Crystal Fairy and the Magical Cactus, Shawshank Redemption and the James Bond series (partial to Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan).

Books: Lord of the Rings, Sherlock Holmes, 1984, The Stormlight Archive, and cheap used textbooks I can find at libraries and other sales

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My first spire climb was back in 2012. I climbed Ancient Art Tower in Moab, Utah and have yet to climb another free-standing spire but can't wait until I get the chance to again.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am always looking to learn as much as I can about new places I visit ranging from the simple location of spots to the general vibe to the issues and other intricacies that are unique to the spot. I can share some insight on educational issues and policies as well as bicycle mechanics and any other odds and ends knowledge I have picked up.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Some (hopefully) interesting conversation and if you have a bicycle and would like to learn/do anything mechanically with it, I could help!
