About Me

My current mission is to engage my fear of the unknown and experience the miraculous beauty of things first hand.

I'm a highly-intuitive, extremely eloquent, witty, funny, sometimes charming, incredibly honest, mystic sort of guy with an ivy league education that I've never used and, a strong desire to know the truth about things and a tendency to challenge people to look and laugh at the assumptions they make about the world they live in. I don't smoke or drink or eat animals, but I neither encourage nor discourage others from any of those things.

Right now: if we give it the chance, the grace of the universe will always triumph over the things we fear.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I've been surfing nonstop for the past three months (as part of an endless journey of self-discovery), meeting wonderful people and plan to continue into the foreseeable future. I also attend the meetups in the cities I visit. And I've house and pet sat for some of the people I've met.

I've spent the past three months surfing the pacific northwest (Portland, Seattle and Vancouver) and will be making my way south and then to the east coast, one couch at a time.

I'm a writer (primarily of literary novels at this point - I've just finished my first (kindle owners and people with their own printing capacities are welcome to read it) and am starting my second, which I plan to write while on the road), a standup comedian (note: if you get some well-behaved friends together, I'd be happy to put on a show), and an intuitive dream interpreter (I'll interpret any dreams you have while I'm staying with you or even ones you have had in the past). Most of what I do is aimed at fostering love and wonder and reducing suffering and the illusions that cause suffering.

Doing a lot of reading lately. Here's some stuff I read within the last year: White Noise - Don Delillo Ratner's Star - Don Delillo The Boy Detective Failed - Joe Meno The Great Perhaps - Joe Meno The City & The City - China Mieville The Book of Laughter and Forgetting - Milan Kundera The Cave - Jose Saramago All the Names - Jose Saramago The Instructions - Adam Levin One Hundred Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World - Haruki Murakami Fight Club - Chuck Pahlaniuk The God of Small Things - Arundhati Roy East of Eden - John Steinbeck Things Fall Apart - Chinua Achebe Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad All My Friends are Superheroes - Andrew Kaufman Penguin Island - Anatole France The Heart is a Lonely Hunter - Carson McCullers The Flame Alphabet - Ben Marcus Love in the Time of Cholera - Gabriel Garcia Marquez The Savage Detectives - Roberto Bolano Lolita - Vladamir Nabakov (currently reading)

One Amazing Thing I've Done

The glow of extra-reality that has surrounded every stranger whom I would eventually fall in love with. The true nature of what it means to be infinite, as it was revealed to me on a San Francisco sidewalk that, from my perspective, extended onwards forever as a gorgeous repetition of concrete and intermittent trees. The sky's endless capacity to be original.
