About Me

Welcome to my page! It is very difficult to write about oneself. I am a person who is interested in the unknown. Often, I see the world with different eyes compared to other people, different in the sense of more critical. I really don't like our capitalistic way of thinking and the fact that the main meaning with life should be to consume. A lot of activities nowadays exemplify and embody capitalist ideology. We can see the problems of that in many different contexts.

Regarding my idea of seeing the world, please read the following quotation.
One of my country's best-known writers, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, said: "You cannot say that you have been somewhere unless you have been there on foot." It is also my way of thinking, using feet instead of cars. Even though today, Goethe would probably have included the bicycle too as this mode of transportation connects you quite well with your surroundings. So let's say: feet and/or bicycle. But that quotation is also about simplicity versus complexity. Just because something is more expensive or technologically advanced does not make it better. Instead I think it is in simplicity where we can find true contentment and, as a nice side-effect, save our planet from complete destruction.

I consider myself to be a "regional patriot". What do I mean by that? You would probably soon find out yourself by talking to me. For me, the region is the most relevant geographic area. I am very enthusiastic about my home region of "Palatinate" (or "Pfalz" in German) and enjoy presenting it to visitors. It is definitely not the most well-known or most popular region in Germany, but it has a lot of lovable characteristics.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Living a simple life is what I really want to do. Couchsurfing is in my opinion the perfect opportunity for me while traveling around.

Interests

What I really enjoy doing is bicycling, hiking, reading, talking, working for environmental protection (whatever that means), learning new things about countries and languages, playing the piano, doing volunteer work, ...

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite "book" is probably Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. Even though it is more a collection of different stories.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Thanks to couchsurfing I could spend two incredibly exciting summers in Romania.
To really live up to Goethe's idea (the one I quoted above) I walked 100 km thru Eastern Romania which gave me an extraordinary perspective upon that region and its people.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am always interested in other people's stories and experiences.

Countries I’ve Lived In

Germany, Sweden
