About Me

I'm easy going and openminded, always in for a good meal with people to talk with, I like to cook and to eat well. I am trying to constantly improve and to be a good listener. I like helping around and being/participating in spaces where people contribute and come together, knowing also how to respect boundaries and personal space ! To me travelling is a way to escape the comfort zones and habits but also finding new ones, opening myself up to possibilities !

I have just finished a master's degree in Art History and am planning to travel in Europe to see the world and celebrate that I am done with school - maybe forever ! My thesis was on the production and different uses of political puppetry and protest art installations so understood by the antiglobalization movement's anarchist tendency. The question not to ask: what job do you want to do with this ? :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

By hosting, surfing, and showing the city around to the people, I get to travel in my own city, or visit a new city with someone who lives there, it is a unique way of travelling !

I met great people who helped me out through the first days of my first trip alone away from friends and home. This is how couch surfing has worked for me up to now, like a hug, open arms to discuss and soothe worries and watch good movies !

Interests

I am a very open-minded, curious and somewhat timid person, except when I get comfortable ! I love to travel to discover new foods and new ways to make art and music, and new ways to party ! I like good wine and good beers also, especially what surrounds brewing them and choosing the right ingredients/flavors !

My favorite ways of travelling is hitchhiking and biking ! I am a very free spirited traveler and I enjoy meeting people who are willing to help out and that I wish to help in return. My bicycle is my second pair of legs !

My passion for music and art have converged in the last few years in the community of Sacred Harp singing, which is one of the reasons for me to travel ! It is a democratic, participatory kind of singing, sung in 4 parts, a cappella voices in a square formation.

I am also into political theory and discussing eventual new paradigms or deconstruction of ancient (modern) ones, or just discussing ways in which people resist authority and established powers.

This political background has led me into being very interested in the history and the contemporary conceptions of feminisms, queer studies and more recently witchcraft and moon stuff ! Very open to discuss and learn about all of these.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I love serendipitous moments and coincidences. You know when you feel you're at the right place at the right moment and the world is mirroring your thoughts or your desires. Driving down the Mexican west coast was a crazy adventure I would start again any time !

One of my greatest adventures has to be biking around the Gaspésie peninsula in my home province, Quebec, Canada. It was a 1300 km bike ride with my friend and lover at the time, and it was amazing landscapes, the ocean, the mountains, and the free life of only having to bike to get around !

Teach, Learn, Share

We are filled with things to learn and teach and share. We just ask to !

We can talk about (western) art history, art theory, social movements, political theory, queer stuff (as in, not just the theory), mutualism, direct action and anarchism !

I can also show you how the shape-note notation system works ! It is a four-shape notation system that is used in Sacred Harp Singing to facilitate sight reading !

What I Can Share with Hosts

I aim to be a respectful guest and have a safe and fun place to stay while I am in your town ! I am quite independant, as in I don't need you to show me around all the time, although I am sure I can always use some recommendations and some guidance !
I would love to share a meal with you, or perhaps just a drink ! It would be great if we could have discussions and moments, but I understand if you are a busy person !
