About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enlightenment. Or, if not that, sweeping the floor.

ABOUT ME

Studied in Canada. Worked in Japan, China, Costa Rica, Vietnam and Thailand. Now I'm living in Taiwan and teaching at a language centre for adults.

PHILOSOPHY

In the words of Lawrence Krauss:

"Through an awe-inspiring cosmic history we find ourselves on this remote planet in a remote corner of the universe, endowed with intelligence and self-awareness. We should not despair, but should humbly rejoice in making the most of these gifts, and celebrate our brief moment in the sun."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I don't have a class in the evenings, CS get-togethers are a lot of fun.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed several couches; made friends over coffee, drinks and meals; took a couch-surfer in Vietnam on a weekend motorcycle trip; hosted in Canada. Now, hosting.

Interests

Photography (my photo-blog is at www.photophage.com/blog). Piano. Motorcycles. Asia. Music of most kinds.

Music, Movies, and Books

Dave Matthews, Glenn Gould, Billy Bragg, Karen Mok, Oscar Peterson, Wynton Marsalis, Wong Kar-Wai, Leonard Cohen, Stanley Kubrik, James Nachtwey, Ani DiFranco, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Doisneau, The Cohen Brothers, John Irving, Milan Kundera, W.H. Auden, Yeats, Haruki Murakami, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Edward Weston, J.S. Bach, Jane Siberry, Sheryl Crow and so many more...

Teach, Learn, Share

I've taught English, piano, computer skills, math and photography, and am happy to share whatever I know about them. I'd like to learn studio recording, and to speak (and write) Chinese.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Lots of stories about life in Asia! An enthusiasm for art, music, movies and photography. If the weather's good and I'm not working that day, a motorbike trip up to a hotspring in the jungle is a possibility.

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada, China, Costa Rica, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Viet Nam
