Hi, I'm Pia!

Since October 2018 I am a full time traveler together with my husband Patrick. We are traveling Open End and have been to 10 countries so far.

First things first:
Food is one of the most important things for me when traveling. I just eat at places where local people eat and I have never had problems with my stomach so far. Actually, I prefer eating vegetarian and if you ask me, I will always choose the veggie version. Nevertheless, I am open minded for local dishes which contain meat - but most of the time I will just try a bite from my husband and I am fine with that.

I am an easy going, helpful and open minded person and you can ask me anything about my culture, home country, experiences,... - anything that comes to your mind is ok.

Our style of traveling:
Very spontaneously - Sometimes we don't know where we will sleep that night and that's how we like it. Feels more like adventure and free.
We use local transportation. Of course, an air-conditioned private taxi is more comfortable and faster but being in an overfilled bus, stuck between rice and a strange box which smells like fish is way more exciting :D Even if it is for hours we would choose the second option because it is the way that local people get from one place to another.
Tourist spots are not always on our to-do list when we come to a place. If there is a beautiful tourist place we will visit it, but we definitely don't have to see all of them. We prefer going to parks, have a walk through the city, going to local restaurants and just watch the people and their daily life.

As far as we have a YouTube channel I am always interested in learning new things concerning filming, photography, editing movies and pictures. I am still at the beginning but trying hard to get better! So if you have any tips I will be happy if you let me know. I can also teach you some basic things about editing movies and pictures.

After we have been to a meditation center in Sri Lanka, I am trying to change some of my habits. I have never been an early morning person but slowly I am becoming one and I like it. I try to do more workouts and get fit and I want to overthink my relationship to my mobile phone. Sometimes I don't even know what I want to look on my phone but still I take it. I want to stop things like that and use my time for more useful things (e.g. reading a book, writing diary).

I love sweet things and I love to bake. Although I am not the best baker, I just like the feeling of "creating something". In gerneral, I am a very creative person and I like to watch handcrafts videos and try them at home. I have worked as a kindergarden teacher at home and loved to invent things for my kindergarden group.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I set up my Couchsurfing profile when we started traveling but did not use the platform until now. As we have met a lot of people and have been to many beautiful places, we always have the feeling of not knowing enough about a country. That's why we want to do Couchsurfing. We want to meet local people, learn about their culture, lifestyle, thoughts, passions, dreams and want to get new friends all around the world. I think couchsurfing is the best way to become part of the local life and learn from the people who are actually living there. A museum or book can never tell you about the daily life as good as a real person can.
